Good. It did seem to be a warning specifically directed to me. You stated that you spoke for everyone on the board so this confused me since regulars on the board should already know this information. I just wanted to make sure you weren't making any assumptions or prejudging me because I had Christianity listed in "My Interests" on my profile.

Absolutely not Becky. Just makin' a general statement there. I guess the location in the thread made it appear it was directed specifically to you. Sorry 'bout that. You know, I'd be up for a discussion sometime about how religious and non-religious people can promote a respectful society for all! Maybe I'll start a thread about that.

I'm sorry Dona, have I said anything to give you the impression that I dislike, diagree, don't care for, or want to restrict, supress or invalidate the opinions of anyone on this board? Have I been disrespectful to anyone? Becky

There is no "Great Commission" for atheists. Our discussions on this board will never be about how we can pull someone over to "our side" (we don't have "a side") or strategies for winning debates with religious people. We don't want to debate. We're here to talk amongst ourselves. Personally, I don't want to change anyone's mind. You're happy with your life? I'm glad for you, please do what works for you. I draw the line at forcing an agenda on other people, atheist and believer alike. #1 People should never be made to feel like they are not capable of knowing how to conduct their own lives and to know what's best. #2 Laws of this country are not supposed to enforce a religious viewpoint. One's religious beliefs should have no influence in the voting booth. Our political leaders, ideally, should not bow to the pressures of religious groups to promote any particular laws.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we are all for peaceful co-existence. We certainly have our opinions but they are OURS and we're NOT out to force them on anybody. We simply ask the same respect in return. Atheists have no "Great Commission."

Your stroy is fascinating. I went through the same thing with family when I had a black boyfriend. My mother wanted to disown me. I have cousins who have Bi-racial children. My grandmother refused to allow them in her home or acknowlegde their existance. She is dead now, and we are all relieved. Skinheads and white supremesists use the same bible as all others to justify their hatred and bigotry in the name of christianity.
