Topic: What do you believe?
I was just asked to discuss what atheism is and I realized, you can't really! And "atheist" is kind of an odd term. Why label someone by what they're NOT? So let's discuss what WE ARE.
I would like it if a different term to describe a non-spiritual person were to become popularized such as "realist."
Religion for me is a non-issue in my life. I don't really have a reason to think about it or ponder religious issues. Unfortunately, I am forced to look at the actions of religious people and their attempts to impose their beliefs on our government and society which should remain secular.
I do believe in taking responsibility for my actions in the here and now. Deed not creed!
I try to consider the inherent right and wrong of any decision and judgment. I feel I have a responsibility to be a good citizen and that should be reflected in my judgments.
I am responsible to myself to live the best I can. To continue the educational process my whole life and make positive choices. When I have a problem in my life, big or small, I work to resolve it. WLS was about my biggest personal issue since my weight was adversely affecting my health. I owed it to myself to do whatever was possible to make myself healthy.
Live with integrity and honesty!
In everything I do, do it the best I am able!
I try to be polite and mannerly at all times but I have to admit, if you get on my last nerve.....
The book that had the most influence on my life was (I know it's a cliche to say this) Yes, perhaps you could guess... Atlas Shrugged.

So true Dawn! The people who gamble always seem to be the folks who can afford it the least!
People love to hear these stories of somebody who gambled their last dime and it paid off huge---that's exactly what's filling the buses that leave Chicago, headed for the Indiana casinos every day!

I just wonder what right she had going out and putting $20 in a slot machine! Even I cant afford to do that!
Topic: Just dropping by...
I was prompted by Dona's post on the MB to drop in and see what kind of craziness it created... Not much, I'm surprised - just one post.
Anyway, I'm usually a lurker here - lean more towards agnostic than atheist, myself - but enjoy reading your posts quite a bit, they keep me thinking.
Catchya later!

Terri,
I don't feel that I've been attacked or even criticized by anyone on this board, and I too hold no hard feelings toward anyone.
May you to have the best life has to offer.

First of all:
"I believe God provides for my financial needs"
"I have no way of know what God does or doesn't do for others and I will never assume to know."
My question would be then, if you know God provides for you financially then you must know he would provide for every single person. What sort of a God would pick and choose who he Helps. If you assume he provides for you then you must assume he provides for all of his children. Plain and simple logic lessons dictate this would have to be true.
Secondly:
"As to "Unfortunately, you will never be able to have a civil or "friendly" discussion with a die hard Atheist on the subject of christianity. That is just the way it is." This is sad."
Why is it sad? Christians will never understand how an Atheist thinks. That is just fact, not sad.
Lastly:
"I have never said anything mean, rude, condescending or insulting to anyone on this board."
Did anyone say you did? I was just clarifying a few things as was Dona. You are really taking our comments as a personal attack or something. I do not even know you. My comments(and Dona's) were in no way an attack on you. I just do not see where that comes from or why you think we even think that.
I am sorry this board was not able to give you whatever you felt you needed from it. There really is no hard feelings on my part. If you choose to chime on a board such as this, you open yourself up for critisism. Trust me, I belong to a yahoo group that would litereally chew you up and spit you out. I am sometimes intimidated to post there. This board is nothing compared to that.
Atheists do not speak with the restraints that most people do. We are really a different breed. When discussing these sorts of issues, you have to be prepared for the heat.
I really mean it when I say I have no ill feelings towards you or anything you said. They are your opinions just as these are mine. We are all entitled.
Respectfully,
Terri
