Hmmm... Let's see..
I worked for my parents' business from the time I was about 7 until I was probably 18. At 7, I mostly alphabetized and put invoices in order, etc. At 15, I took my first "legal" job at a grocery store.
At about 19, I took a job at Wal-mart and then a second job at my best friend's parents' store - it's called Stoner's... Sold gag gifts, costumes, masks, costume make-up, professional magic, etc. Worked there pt, ft and then pt again for a few years.
Paper route when I was 13 and again at 20 after my son was born.
Worked at a barn mucking stalls around the age of 21.
Spent about a year and a babysitting fulltime for a family of 4 kids (plus my son).
Took my last job at 23 with my current company - started off on contract as an admin. I'm an HR manager now. Still work pt for my friend's family store at Halloween when they're slammed...

Jeez louise Barb that's quite a list! I've never done any weird job! I drove a truck around the South for my Dad when I was home from college in the summer but I'd go sightseeing and visit college friends. The summer of 1980 I was a census taker.
When my parents helped me buy my first new car I had to get a job of any kind so that the bank would put the financing in my name and I could take over the payments. I worked for three weeks at a car hubcap factory with women who talked about how their boyfriends/husbands really loved them even though they beat them. It was extremely depressing.
I taught high school English when I was in graduate school. That was not fun.
I worked as an editor until 1985 when the Macintosh became a viable print production tool and I jumped on it immediately. I was a digital print production consultant for many years. Now every little vo-tech school cranks out people to do design on the Mac so I got out of it about six years ago. I sold my condo to finance becoming an independent trader and that's what I do now. It allows me time to work on film projects as well. I optioned my first screenplay recently and hope to be able to sell it by next January.

Terri's post got me thinking about all the jobs I've had. I took my first W2 job at 13 lying about my age (said I was 15). How about the rest of you, what have you done (legally ) to keep food on the table or clothes on your back?

Topic: RE: Kinda OT--Astrology
That's cool that you have a chart! I have one as well and I still don't know all the aspects and what they mean. I have this big, thick astrology book that I got in middle school and it's SO informative. Still, there are so many things to learn that it would take a lot of patience and dedication for me to ever be truly knowledgeable.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the rising (ascendant) sign is just the sign based on your birthdate.....for you, it would be Libra since you were born on Oct 13. My mom was born on 10/14, so that's pretty cool

Everyone, thanks for the contributions! It looks like we have 2 Libras and 3 March birthdays (two Pisces, one Aries--the Aries just missed the cut to be a Pisces by 4 days).
That's pretty interesting. I only wish there were more people so I could really see any trends. Thanks again for the contributions!

Dang Terri, this all sounds so screwed up!!! I'm SO GLAD that your surgery is long behind you and you are able to do things like go running to burn off some of the stress. But your gym is closing too??? OK that's just getting ridiculous!!! I hope you are not getting screwed on the membership fee! Is there another gym in your area that you think you would like?
I'm a bit confused... are you going to be able to get your TT? And do I understand correctly, the second buy-out fell through so you're still going to get the severance, the bonus, the paid vacation, yes?
A person like you is very employable! Please keep us updated how you're doing!

I am a jack of all trades. Right now I am a payroll specialist for an HR company. I have a degree in HR/Training and Development. HR is what I want to do, but I keep getting sucked into these payroll jobs.
I did find out that the deal they were hoping for fell through, and we are still scheduled to close. They are fighting tooth and nail to keep this crippled company open though. They are fighting an uphill battle and the general opinion is that they will not succeed. THIS is the first bit of good news i have had this week.
I get a hefty severance, an incentive bonus, and almost 4 weeks of leftover vacation paid out. I can collect unemployment after that. I am taking some time off.
I used to love my company and my job. I hate that it has come to this.

Oh Terri, how stressfull. Do you have a new job lined up? I know it will suck giving up the severence but do you really want to stay on the rollercoaster? You might not get severence from the new owners when they eventually go belly-up. I've been laid off four times (twice from the same employer LOL), I've always found another job and I've grown in each one. If you don't have a new job, start looking. You company sounds like a downer. What do you do for a living?
