Unfortunally weight loss is the only thing that will lighten your symptoms i was told there really wasnt a cure for PCOS I have had it for 14 years . There is more to pcos than just the cycles, you can get a hirsutism, diabetes, or you are insuline resistant, heart disease, infetility, hair loss, depression, mood swings, rapid weight gain, skin tags, skin darkening in folds, and much more if it isnt treated properly. The number one thing you need to do is to find a good endocrineologist, they will get you on the right track actually a gyno only knows so much about it. The medications i was put on is the byetta pin, metformin, & aldactone. And now since i have let PCOS rule my life they are now telling me that i have thyroid problems and adrenal problems and it is due to not taking care of the PCOS . Honestly if you can have weightloss surgery get it done it will deminsih the symptoms and most likely start your cycles again. Pcos did not make me infertile i had two children with pcos. That was the only part of my life pcos did not hinder. Good luck and do lots of research that always helps.

My PCOS was apparently cured by having the Duodenal Switch. Prior to WLS - my symptoms were: Irregular or nonexistant periods Rupturing Cysts on my ovaries excess weight hair on my chinny-*****hin insulin resistance (per my current PCP, this is the only test to truly diagnose it other than doing an imaging test to actually look for cysts.) I was on Nordette to regulate periods, and 2000 mg of Glucophage (metformin). I no longer need either one - my periods have been regular as a clock since September, and I am no longer insulin resistant - in fact, my fasting insulin level was LOW instead of high now. (2.1 mIU/L for a range of 3.0-27.0) I also have not had any incidents of rupturing cysts (which is what led me to the doctor the first time it was diagnosed).
