You know what makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck?? It just kills me when people don't use capital letters, OR punctuation. It's like one long, run-on sentence that you couldn't follow on a bet!!! Auuuggghh!!! I try to at least proof my posts, and I'm sure something erroneous gets through sometimes, but I really try to keep that to a minimum... There are many times I simply can't read a post someone has written because it's so poorly written,-- and the lack of punctuation, capitalization, and appropriate grammar is enough to make you want to offer free tutoring to the writer!!!!! Anyway, I'll do my part by proof reading my posts, and hope not to drive anyone nuts with my occasionally imperfect grammar. Take care all, Jessica

What disturbs me are the people who won't turn off the caps lock. I studied newsdesign and worked have as a designer and editor at a variety of newspapers. All caps is actually harder to read than correct capitalization; capital letters all have the same basic shape and are harder to scan with the eye. I'm spoiled by Television without Pity. I post to the boards there quite a bit and they enforce standards for grammar, spelling and capitlization. I'm not saying that they boot people for forgetting a comma. If a post is littered with bad grammar, missed spellings and/or all caps, the mods warn the person to clean it up and to read the site FAQ. My response to people on this site who go crazy with the caps is that I don't bother to read their posts. It isn't worth the trouble to me, no matter how well-meaning they seem to be.

"My response to people on this site who go crazy with the caps is that I don't bother to read their posts. It isn't worth the trouble to me, no matter how well-meaning they seem to be." It's frustrating though, because I'm often interested in getting information and advice from people on the main board, but...I JUST CAN'T READ IT. I get so disgusted that I give up, even though I'm wondering, "Yeah, what IS the best protein drink?" ;)

If I were still a believer in Christianity, I would yell an "amen" at you for this post. Much of the writing on these message boards is atrocious, and that's being generous. I don't think anyone is asking for someone to be killed because he/she didn't properly match an antecedent with a pronoun, but is subject-verb agreement so hard to adhere to when the person is trying to communicate something important? Give me a friggin' break! What's even more saddening is that children coming up these days are not even getting the rudimentary skills to be even remotely successful in writing. A 17-year-old friend of mine asked me to review his report and to offer suggestions. The seven-page report's being one huge paragraph notwithstanding, his writing was an abomination--missing commas, colons, dangling modifiers, incorrect subject-verb agreement, run-on sentences, red herring statements, etc. I offered him my suggestions on ways to improve the report, and he became offended and decided to change nothing. One week later, he came back to me to let me know mockingly that he received "B" on his paper. My question in response to his statement was, "Tell me the exact name of the school you attend so I know where not to send my children. Also, give me the name, description, and social security number of your teacher so I can put out a hit on him/her. The grammar police need to know about this!" This person should be put out of his/her misery! I think he's still upset with me though I can't imagine why! Children!
