My Wow Moment
Or should I say, my quietly pleasing moment. I went to Kohls with my incredibly hard to fit daughter (she's 15, 5 foot and 85 pounds). She wants clothes appropriate for her age but usually only fits in little girls clothes. Homecoming is Saturday so she wants an outfit for the dance. As usual, we couldn't find anything for her (We'll have to go to the extremely expensive Galleria to find her something), but I tried on some clothes while waiting for her. I tried a 1X blouse; too big, an XL blouse; too big and then a Large. It fit nicely. Wasn't tight, my boobs weren't pulling at the buttons, it was just perfect. A large! I haven't been in a large in at least 10 years. I bought it.

That will probably improve. My blood sugar started creeping up as "metabolic syndrome" started taking hold before my surgery. My doctor put me on Avandia and I was GAINING one to two pounds A WEEK. I was beyond miserable! It made me appreciate and want the surgery even more!
I went off all meds before surgery and I never went back on them! My blood sugar returned to normal as soon as I started losing weight! My doctor has sent about a dozen people for WLS and she told me everyone has been able to come off their various meds. I was fortunate in that everything wrong with me was literally weight-induced.
As I understand it, diabetes makes losing weight very difficult so it seems like it can be said you've made great strides already. By the time you reach your goal weight you will probably be extremely improved! You're on the right road.
Thanks for the encouragement. My blood pressure is already under control. I have a feeling my meds will be cut back when I see my PCP next month. She did warn me that because I've been insulin dependent for so long, that it might take a while to clear the diabetes up. I went to your website. You're looking great.
It's going to happen for you Barb. This surgery is really amazing! And look at the fantastic results we're having without any assistance from a deity! Either a god is giving it away for free to those of us who don't ask for it or MEDICAL SCIENCE IS REALLY INCREDIBLE! Had to keep it relevant to the board there....
I went on blood pressure meds last October. GONE in one month, off Enalapril. Cholesterol NORMAL in one month, off of Lipitor. Wheezing, GONE in one month, off of Advair. Arthritic knees, NOT HURTING, off of Celebrex. Activity level UP UP UP!!!
You've done the most critical thing you could do to ease your condition and I'm sure you'll see on-going improvements as your body adapts to the changes taking place. Have you changed your activity levels? Did you have any food compliance issues that you can deal with now that you don't have hunger nagging at you? 'Cos I don't know about you but I have NO APPETITE!!! Even the smell of food doesn't bother me!
Yes, I still have an appetite. Not the overwhelming hunger and cravings that I used to have. Now I have a shrimp ****tail, or a couple of meatballs and I'm satisfied. One thing I need to do more of is exercise. Believe it or not I used to be an exercise nut. In the army I was a running fool. Now I'm just a fool. I must get up earlier in the morning and go to the gym. I have a long commute to and from work and find I'm just too tired in PM.
I've also notice that I'm no longer wheezing, and no longer need acid reducers.
It's been great and I haven't prayed once for any of it.
