My fear is that the christian group will want to come here and debate religion with us. I am more afraid of that than the mods.
I know these boards are open for all and I am a FULL supporter af free speech, but we are not a curiosity or oddity to gawk at either. I am hoping the right thing happens with this board and the gawkers stay away.
I am here to be free from religion and prayers. This board is for Atheists/Agnostics and that is all that should post here in my opinion. I would not go to the Christian or Jewish boards and post there. There are a bazillion other boards for eveyone else. If someone is curious, go buy a book. I am here to talk to fellow Atheists/Agnostics only.
We will just have to see what gets pulled and what does not. If they start that annoying sensoring, I am outta here.
Much Love,
Terri

There will be the few zealots that make an appearance, and undoubtedly will demonstrate why many Athiests and Agnostics are also anti-religion (as I become more and more every day).
I would welcome anyone that can be respectful and thoughtful in discussion.

I hate to say I think the one thing we have working in our favor here is that the navigation on this site is TERRIBLE!!! A lot of people don't even know where to look for the majority of the message boards! The "secret passageway" link to the boards doesn't even appear on the page they call the "Main Entrance"!! The Religion board has fewer total posts than this board has already and a thread calls it a "shame and a disgrace." One poster notes that it took her "months to find" that board.
Probably the way most people find these other boards is by clicking the Interests links in profiles. But if you don't bookmark it while you're there, you may not find it again! I notice from posts on the Main Messageboard that apparently people keep losing the Men's board.
I hope that religious people don't come here. It's been my experience that very few are even capable of "respectful" discussion when it comes to this subject.
My sincerest apologies. I came to continue my education into the human condition - regardless of religion. I'm not popping in to gawk or judge. I won't post again here - I'd not considered you wouldn't welcome other's so long as they weren't pummeling the pulpit. Again, please accept my apologies. Bowing out.
Tooter, I'd say I probably speak for everyone here when I say we WOULD welcome others "so long as they weren't pummeling the pulpit." Atheists and religious people can share one very serious concern these days: The perversion and abuse of religion. Christian Fundamentalists right here in America are using religion as a weapon and as a political tool more and more. We should all be concerned about that!

Gosh, the more things change, the more things stay the same.
Remember when the men's board started, there were those that wanted it to be a "He man women haters club" "No women allowed) (Little Rascals). It raised quite a stink on the mens board and the main board.
Well, here we are again.
What fun is this board going to be if we all think and speak the same?

I was not aware this was to be a place to debate religion and the like. If that is what this is to be then I will stick to my other groups. I do not really like to debate my beliefs as I have no need to defend them to anyone. This is a WLS site that provides support for those of us not needing someones prayers.
I belong to a really cool Yahoo group where some very educated, thoughtful people debate and argue a variety of issues. Let me know, and I will send you the link.
We are finding our place and momentum here at this board. I wanted to be around like minded people here. Not all Atheists think the same either. Have non-theists beliefs does not make us all the same. Learning from each other and giving support in our journey is key.

I can't help but draw similarites between this and the mens forum...
-> There were those on the mens forum that only wanted men to post, that it was a place 'free of women'. There are apparently those here that only want A&As to post, as a religion free zone.
-> There are those that want the mens forum to be a place to talk about mens issues. Women have an interest in mens issues also. There are those that would like to see this forum be a place to discuss A&A topics, but theists also have an interest in this.
-> What the mens forum has become, and what this forum is destined to become, is a rarely used board that contain cross-posts from the main board, and the occassonal post about penis size.
-> I am interested in how and why the A&A's on this board believe what they believe. Personally, I have put a lot of thought into my 'Functional Athiesm' and I am sure other people have put a lot of thought into their views.
Confining this board to WLS topics is a death blow. ANY WLS topic that could be discussed here will get better coverage and discussion on the main board.
