Topic: RE: Pre-op saying goodbye to nsaids in 2 weeks!
Pain medication can cause bleeding, and to avoid complications during operation that is why you where advised to stop taking it. Your surgeon will tell you to avoid eating and drinking within a certain period of time before surgery.

Topic: RE: pre-op pain mgmt
Yes, my thought was that losing weight would remove stress from my knees and hips as time went by. I"m actually counting on that over the long term.
Short term, I understand that walking is the post-op therapy of choice. And with my crummy hips, walking is going to be hard.
Since posting this initial concern, I have started walking more. Without pain meds. I"m trying to build up strength in supporting muscles so that I can walk more post op.
I feel like I am rambling. Will stop here.

Topic: Decrease in meds after significant weight loss?
Hi all, I have severe RA in most of my joints, I'm on Enbrel and Metho injected weekly. I am waiting for my surgeon's office to call this week to schedule my RNY. I've gone through all the hoops, and now just need my date. I've already talked to my rheumy about when to stop my meds before and after surgery.
The one thing I haven't asked is this: has anyone who is on meds like this had to reduce the dosage following the major weight loss? Has anyone had the experience of NOT needing these medications following their surgery and loss?
I know that having this surgery is NOT A CURE. But with there being less pressure on my joints, is there a possibilty of my RA not being as active?
Thanks for anyone being able to share their experience. I'm so excited to be so close to my goal of having the surgery and having this 'tool' to help get my life going in the direction that I want it to be heading towards. I'm tired of being a slave to my body.

Topic: RE: Reiters = Band Revision?
You should consult your doctor first and ask for any suggestions. They can give you better ideas about your band revision. I know a doctor that could help you. Andres E. Castellanos Jr., MD. Good luck!

Topic: RE: New Member with Spinal Stenosis, DDD, PCOS and Sciatica seeks help
Hi, I also have spinal stenosis. I went and had epidurals which did nothing and then
I went to Dr Bridwell in St Louis at Barnes-Jewish. I got direct nerve root injections which helped. I didn't have any problems until a year ago I hurt my back working out in the pool. They gave me oral steriods which then killed my hip. I can not say enough wonderful things about Dr. Bridwell. I worked in medical malpractice for 23 years and am picky about Dr, this man is a God. Now I am waiting for weight loss surgery to lose enough weight to get a new hip. I will keep you in my prayers. It will get better, it will. Barb

Topic: RE: Black Cherry for gout and general foot osteoarthritis
Kathyellen, Yes, I take it daily. I take 1 cap as maintenance for arthritis in my right foot. My husband only takes it when his psoriatic arthritis flares up and he takes the concentrate for a day or two. My mother-in-law does the same only when her gout flares up. 1 - 2 doses gets rid of it. The black cherry also has no side affects. Good luck. Elena
