Both of mine were totalknee replacements. Before the surgery the pain was constant and i couldnt sleep at night. But after the rehab (which is critical) i am pain free and i am very happy i had it done. If i hadnt had the surgery I would be on disability by now and I am 48 years old. My father had both of his replaced 2 years ago at 72 years old. He had same results
and is very mobile/pain free now.

Good Luck,

Jeff

Has it stopped the pain Jeff & has it altered your mobility at all?

I had a partial replacement 9 yrs ago & it didn't really stop the pain & made my balance quite unstable. Now I'm having much worse pain & its pretty much worn out again, so now I'm waiting for a full replacement, so I'll be interested in any reply's too!
I hope it goes well for you....I'm on the waiting list so it will probably be a while for me.  When is yours?

Topic: Celebrex- I miss it!
I am 2 weeks post op RNY and I miss my celebrex. My joints ache. When should I be able to swallow the capsule? Opening the capsule Seems to reduce it's effectiveness so I've resorted to ibuprofen suspension. Which I'm aware of risks.

Topic: Arthritis Help
I had surgery in 2006, and my surgeon has moved away, but I have massive arthritis in my back, hips, knees and foot with deterioration of the bone in the foot.  I know we can't take Ibuprofen, but was wondering what we can.  I am now taking tramadol and hydrocodiene.

Ahhh...interesting. I've always thought the no-NSAIDS were because they are pills and in the pouch, will cause ulcers.

No, have never even heard of the other medication. I'll have to do some research on that. Thanks!

Wouldn't matter HOW you take them, NSAIDs are still no-nos after the RNY. Their effect is systemic, meaning that no matter how they enter your bloodstream, they cause a thinning of the mucosal lining of your stomach, allowing its own acids to cause harm.

Have you tried Lidoderm patches? They're fairly effective, and don't contain NSAIDs.

My doctor and I were so hoping that losing the weight would help with my arthritis pain and problems, but so far it's not helping. I've gone back on Remicade and am still waiting for it to start working.

Does anyone know if there are any anti-inflammatories that are injectable, since those with RNY can't take them?

Topic: OA and running
I am 54 years young, have OA in cervical spine, also in lumbar spine and have a spondilolisthesis as well. Have been running a little between walking, would like to work up to more running. Just purchased Ryka running shoes which are supposed to help with form and protect joints. Anyone else running with OA?  Thanks, Jenny T
