Celebrex is an NSAID---is your RNY surgeon okay with you EVER taking it again? Did you consider having either the Sleeve or the DS rather than the RNY? Neither of those forms of WLS substantially increase the risks of NSAIDs like the RNY does.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of doctor you're looking for. Frankly, given that you have a BMI of 69.9, *I* think the kind of doctor you should be looking for is a weight-loss surgeon, preferably one that does the Duodenal Switch.

I was dx'd with severe arthritis at the age of 20, when i weighed about 200 pounds. 25 years later, I weighed 395 and you can imagine how much worsethings were with my arthritis. I chose to have a DS seven years ago, and while it hasn't CURED my arthritis---the damage of years of being SSMO will NEVER be 'cured'---losing a massive amount of weight has certainly made my life less painful. I DO still take Aleve 2-3 times EVERY day, but at least now I'm mobile and fairly functional.

Any surgeon on this list can help you: www.dsfacts.com/North-American-Duodenal-Switch-Surgeons.html

Hi,

I drink Elations each day. It can be costly but I will gladly pay for my Elations each and every day to feel as good as I do. I began drinking Elations about 1 1/2 years ago. I DO notice a big difference between this past winter (2010/2011) and last winter (2009/2010). The weather was even worse this year!

Here's a great site you can get some good info from...

Have a great day!

I am new to this website but I am in desperate need of a fat friendly doctor.  Everyone I see blames every ache and pain I have on weight.  I am overweight, I will be the first to say it.  But I feel like I can hardly make it thru the day and I hurt so bad all over.  I can't go to the grocery store or even just run in to pick up anything quickly in a department store.  I have two beautiful children I want to play with and go to the zoo with but my back pain and other pain just does not allow it and I know something else has to be going on.  Any suggestions for a doctor would be so helpful.  I am at my whits end.

Hi Jeff

I am planning on having my first total knee rep. late this year and hopefullly the second right after.  I am not afraid of pain as both of my knees are bone on bone and walking is extremely difficult for me now.  I am frightened by the rehab.  I have never been an active person and I am scared I won't be able to keep up in rehab.  I had pneumonia this past year and during a period that I was free from the drainage machine I went to rehab to watch what was going on.  But I couldn't really get any idea because of what the people were in there for wasn't knee or joint replacement.

Can you give me a clue.  I know that you are a guy and guys are usually much better at this then women.  Which hurt worse?  The knee or the weight loss surgery.  How painful was the rehab and how long did you have to go.  Did you have to stay at a rehab facility or did you do rehab out patient.

Thanks for any info that you can give to me.

Check with both your orho and WLS as they might have different views of when you can start.  I was almost 4 years out before I could start taking it and my ortho had me check with my wl surgeon first.

My Rheum doctor wants to start me on these injections once I'm all healed from my pending pelvic surgery.  Anyone have any experience with it?  What type of side effects did you have.  Do you self-inject?

I cannot use methotrexate because I have 7 nodules in my lungs that my Rheum feels is RA related.

He wants to keep me on the Plaquenil as well.  He's very good at working with me to stay away from steroids and nsaids.  So he's trying other options to help with the pain and progression.

Not sure when you can take it, but I was just put on it a couple of weeks ago. I love the stuff. I go next week to see if I can continue. Dr. who prescribed it was well aware of the WLS so there is hope for you.
