With over 200 pounds to lose, I wouldn't even think about getting a lap band and would be wary of a surgeon who would recommend it to someone with such a high BMI. Many people with arthritis choose the sleeve or DS because it allows for greater weight loss and still can take NSAIDS. I opted for the RNY, myself.

Topic: hot tub
I have a condition called hydrenitis.  I have massive boils due to my weight.  I am on medicare and the medicade waiver program and live in Ohio.  I will never be able to get in a public pool or sauna due to my cronic drainage.

I was wondering if any one knows if my insurances would pay for a hot tub spa or pool so that I can soak these boils with epson salts.

My morbid obesity keeps me from walking and water therapy seems to be a good choice for me.  Any ideas would be awsome.  thanks

To be honest I don't see anyone having children after living like this. Theres morning I wake up and can't move my hands...I just can't imagine having another child and not being able to take care of it like I need to. That to me would just be heart breaking although I had planned on having more. My Plaqunil isn't working like it should, but I do feel like its helping some what. I"m just so scared of the other meds that everyone says helps them so much. I'm willing to take chances but not when it comes to causing cancer.

I too have RA. I was on Plaquenil for 3 years. I went off it 6 months ago because it wasn't helping anymore. I feel the same off of it as I did on now. Have they put you on prednisone too? I was taking both for a while to get it under control. I am not sure what your plans on for having children or not but take that into consideration before going onto some of the medications. My next drug of choice is Humiera. It is safe during pregnancy, as is Plaquenil. Good luck too you!

How about a 2nd opinion? When was the last time you had an x-ray on it?
My father just had his replaced & he is 75. Lesser pain than having a knee replaced!
I would also let you doctor know that this pain is preventing you to LIVE your life and is limiting you what you can and cannot do!  You could add that the next step will be pain medication & you do not want to go on pain meds when all that needs to be done is a replacement!~
When I was going through therapy there was a young lady in there much younger than me that had a hip replacement and that was in '08.
Hope this helps!~ Good Luck!

The norm for surgery use to be '62'..because the replacement knee would not last long. Now replacement knees are lasting longer and surgeons are able to do another replacement if needed in 30 years.
40's is not too young to have surgery. I've needed surgery since '08 when I had the arthroscopy done and microfracture. Celebrex, Neurotin and Zanaflex are wonderful combo meds to take for pain relief. Ice and Bio-Freeze or 'Stop Pain' are great for short time relief.
Hope this helps.
Is the same true for replacement hips, do you think?  I got my "bionic" knee in 2002 because of injuries from a head-on collision.    9 years later, my knee is doing great but my left hip that was injured in the same accident, is becoming increasingly more painful if I overdo it (walk around too much ).  I havent been able to sleep on my left side since before the accident.

I see my Orthopedic surgeon once a year...still says I don't need a hip replacement yet.  What can I do to convince him I'm not too young for it?    I'm getting bursitus in my right elbow now due to sleeping only on that side LOL.

Meh...As I read about other's pain, mine seems so small. Thanks for hearing my rambling tonight.

From what i know many people use celebrex to treat pain. This drug can help you but also have lots of side effects...You need to be very good informed when you use this drug for both effectivines and side effects. Same thing i can say about Ibuprofen. You ca find more information about Celebrex here : Celebrex side effects

You need to be very good informed about this kind of medication because they can have lots of side effects...You always need to consult your doctor if you feel something unusual. I found some good information about NSAIDs here : Rheumatoid arthritis medications
