Hi Sandy, Me too friend...I will share my rheumotolgists thoughts after my appt. with you too. There has got to be a solution out there for us! I have not had much luck with rubs and I have tried them all. Hang in there and if celebrex does not work let the Dr. know right away so you can find something that works for you. Warm Regards, Rose C.

Topic: RE: NSAIDS and Bariatric Surgery?
My surgeon allows me to take Mobic and Vicodin as long as I take Protonix to coat my pouch. Talk to your surgeon about Protonix..it can't do any harm in asking. Best wishes to you. *hugs* Kathy

Hi Rose..I'm sorry you are going through so much pain. My surgeon took me off my arthritis meds (mobic and vicodin) right after surgery and by the time I was three months out I couldn't stand the pain. He put me back on them..but I have to take protonix to coat my pouch. Talk to your surgeon about it..best wishes to you!! *hugs* Kathy

Hi Sandy, Yes it sounds like we are in the same boat and too young for it! I have hydrocortazone too but like you do not want to take it if I can stand it. I have been taking tylenol every other night lately but it dosen't do much for me. Do you have difficulty getting your exercise in do to your pain? I sure do and it is supposed to be good for arthritis.

I too have been dianosed with arthritis since WLS. I've tried the creams and don't find any relief from them. My surgeon will not allow the celebrex. I've got an appointment in a couple of weeks with a specialist. i will let you know if I find anything that helps the pain.

I was also told that I could take celebrex but after reading it may cause ulsers I'm beginning to wonder ..... I also get stiff if I sit for too long. Once I get up and moving I seem to be o****il bed time.....By the way I am 52 Sounds like we are in the same boat... Hope you feel better.

Topic: Just found this board....
Hi everybody. Just found this board. I had been having pain in my hips the past couple of months and figured it was my body readjusting from the weight loss. Well got xrays and found out have arthritis in my hips along with my middle and lower back. Doctor prescribed celebrex ( ok'd by surgeon) . Since surgery I haven't had a lot of pain in my back but at night the hips wake me up. Has anyone tried the topical rubs ? Do any of them work ? Just wondering.

You shouldn't sufffer with pain...ther are other options then N-SAIDS. I take a drug called Ultram which is a tylenol based pain killer. It is called Tramadol generically. My Rheumatologist suggests it.
You also don't say what kind of Arthritis you have. If it is Rheumatoid Arthritis, there are so many new treatment options...You should go on the Arthritis Foundation's web site for information.(You can also get DR referrals there)
Also, you might have to consider whether you are getting enough calcium in your diet. After RNY, you need to take Calcium Citrate, not the more commonly available Calcium Carbonate. The carbonate is impossible for RNY patients to absorb, so you need the Citrate. If you are losing bone mass due to calcium deficiency, thic may cause bone and joint pain....
No matter what, I think it is a great idea to see a Rheumatologist...Being 50 is hardly old age....YOu could live another 30 years...Who wants to be in pain that long...
Good Luck,
Kelly
