Jeanne, I don't really have an answer to your question as I don't have lymphadema. However I did want to share that I had my gastric bypass 8/2/06 so coming up on 10 months post op. I have lost approximately 84% of my excess body weight, with less than 20 lbs to goal. I just had computer assited right total knee replacement last Tuesday. I know I am still in quite a bit of pain if I don't take the pain meds, but the good sign is I am already being able to straighten my knee better than before surgery. You may want to look into the computer assisted replacement. From what I understand they can get the hip, knee, ankle alignment within 1-2 degrees 99 % of the time. With the alignment being right it makes the replacement last longer. Just another tidbit that you might be interested in is that on WWW.OR-LIVE.COM if you look under orthopedics and archives, you can watch a minimally invasive computer assisted knee replacement. The surgeon doing it did my surgery the day before. I can't believe that still being in pain from it that I actually watched it, but I found it interesting. Sorry I couldn't be of more help with your original question. Take care and good luck.
Hi, I have almost decided that I am going to get my knees replaced early next year. My question, is there anyone out there who has had the operation and also had lymphadema. I am only mid way to my goal, but I have a long road for that. Any information would be helpful. I have stage 2 in my calf and stage 3 in my lower area around the ankle. Nothing above the knee. Thanks. Jeanne
Hello Everyone: I am 3 weeks post-op. I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. Prior to surgery, I was on methotrexate, salsalate, effexor xr and a small dose of amitriptylene (to help me sleep). I also know that the rheumatologist wants to put me on remicade. After browsing this board, I'm now curious as to whether or not I can still take these meds now that I've had RNY. It's been a while since I've seen my Rheumatologist and I probably won't be able to get in to see him for another 2 months. Any advice would be helpful as I'm so confused about meds right now. Thanks, Marie
