I used to take Tramadol and Sulindac before WLS.  Since surgery, I take Mobic also like another gal said. I also take Protonix to ward off any problems with ulcers. Karen

Topic: RE: Exercise and arthrits of both knees
Hi Lavon! I'm preop and about a month away from my surgery and I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees. Some days I can barely move and the pain is horrible every day! I had been getting cortisone shots that were working until I started walking. Once I started that, the pain got worse and now I'm on Mobic, but it doesn't help much either. I am doing water walking now and still walking on my paper route, but the route ends Sunday thank God.   Has your pain gotten any better since your WLS? My PCP seems to think I won't have to have surgery to repair knees, but I don't know that I believe that anymore. The pain and stiffness is so bad all the time. I really feel like if I weren't having my WLS soon, I'd be in a wheelchair by year end!  Is just losing weight going to help????? I hope you find something that works for you. I would try the water aerobics or walking, it's much gentler on your joints.  Best wishes to you!  Becky

Hi Stacy.  The doctor I went to, she's a specialist in Arthritis, examined me, had me walk and also checked my fingernails, whatever for I don't know.  She also ordered blood tests and xrays of the areas that I complained about.   Good luck.

Topic: Morphea

Was wondering if anyone on here has Morphea (localized Scleroderma)? I know this isn't the right area, but I'm new, so I'm hoping you'll forgive me. If you have Morphea, were you able to get lap band? I'm scheduled for an orientation for WLS in May, and I'm hearing different things about whether this is an option for me... Thanks, Kit

Kim, I am sorry to hear that your Rheumatologist has not already referral you to a pain clinic.  You do not need referrals to go to a pain clinic although your insurance may require one if they are going to cover it. The simplest thing to do is to ask you primary care physician or Rheumatologist for a referral. http://www.pain.com/ is one of the largest pain sites on the Internet. They have a searchable database of over 3000 pain clinics. Also at the top of the page they have a link marked consumers which will provide you with many great resources. Topic: RE: Question about arthritis
Stacey, The simple solution is to stop wondering and ask your doctor. Arthritis is a term that refers to around one hundred conditions all of which have to do with pain and inflammation of one or more joints. The type of test they run depend on the type of arthritis your doctor may think you have. If the condition effects just one or two joints then you doctor then your doctor may only use an X-ray to diagnose the condition. If it effects many joints or you have other symptoms then the diagnosis will probably begin with x-rays and a blood test. For more information on the symptoms and treatment of arthritis here is a great site to visit http://arthritis-symptom.com/ Rusty

Topic: RE: NSAIDs
I am suffering greatly since my wls and no longer being able to take my NSAIDS.  I lived on prescription Ibuprofen before surgery.  I have had 4 epidural shots in my lower back the past 2 months, 1 steroid shot in my left knee, 1 in each hip and I am still suffering just as much.  My MRI and x-rays show great bone deterioration.  I have taken vicodin and percoset since wls but I hate the idea of being hooked on narcotics for the rest of my life.  SOOOOO, I started back on Ibuprofen yesterday and felt relief for the first time since before wls.  I know it is dangerous but I just don't know what to do.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!!

Yes I have heard of Hulda Clark. It simply is not true that ostoearthritis or rheumatoid arthritis are caused by parasites in the joints. There has never been one study to back this claim up. The only thing that will get zapped if you go to Hulda Clark is your wallet. Here is an article you might like to read http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Cancer/clark.html Rusty editor http://arthritis-symptom.com/

Topic: RE: Meds for Fibro & RA after RNY....
Marie, That is a decision for your doctor to make. There should be no problem in taking these meds. Assuming that you told your surgeon all the meds you are on he or she would have told you if you should stop taking them. The general rule with most surgeries is that unless your doctor or surgeon tell you otherwise then you should continue the medical retuine you had before the surgery. That said you should probably see your rheumatologist as soon as possible. Rusty editor http://arthritis-symptom.com/
