Thank you Janet. Good luck with the surgery, I didn't get cleared after my first scope, had ulcerated lesions everywhere, so Now I am hoping thursday he will clear me, he is all I have left. As for my knee I am booking that surgery tuesday, I need it done, I have been popping vicodens for the past few days. I hate feeling like a zombie but I needed something to ease this pain.

So what meds can we take after having RNY, for our Arthritis?

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

OMG Gina, I just read your post and thought hey I did not write  a post about my knee, Mine is killing me too, I went to see the ortho and she did nothing for me because of my up coming surgery, so I ask my surgeon if I could have a shot in the knee, corazone (sp) and she said NO, so here I am too walking with a cane  in pain can't walk far and having surgery on tues So I feel for you, and about the upper scope they were are going to do mine but could not get a IV started so I will have my scope the day of sugery after they start a centeral line, and when I went to have my scope they knew that I was on pain meds and that did not matter to them, I wish you luck in your surgery,

Topic: should my pain be getting worse?

I'm  34  years  old  and  i  have  been  diagnosed  with  ostioarthritis  i  was  told  i  also  needed  knee  replacement  on  both  knees  and  surgery  on  my  back  but  if  i  were  to  lose  weight    i  would'nt  be in  so  much  pain.  well  i  went  from  260  to  212  and  my  pain  is  getting  worse  i  am  now  walking  with  a  cane  especially  in  the  mornings  i  feel  stiff.  i've  been  on  vicadins  for  many  years  already.  so  whats  the  deal  here ?  should'nt  the  pain  be  fading  and  not  getting  worse?  thanks  Debbie

Topic: question about pain meds
Ok so I am pre-op and I have a torn miniscus, and arthritis in my knee, the pain is getting worse and worse as the days go on, I called today to ask for something for the pain..of course they wont give anything over the phone, so i have an appt next tuesday to book the surgery and get pain meds, now i know if i call my primary he will call me in something, now here is my issue, I am having my upper scope done november 1st to find out if my ulcers are gone,so he can clear me for my surgery...... if i get pain meds could that effect the results of my egd? I feel like my damn knee is about to fall off, and what sucks is since I am babying this knee the other knee is starting to hurt now, i hate being fat =0( Gina

well now I have DDD in my neck. That has probably been my pain in my shoulders too. I have not talked to the doc yet, just the nurse told me what my Xrays showed. I imagine that I will have to have an MRI. Could think I lost all this weight so I can havean MRI now. This will limit me on my meds because of my gastric by pass. Life is FUN !!!!

Topic: RE: Is Arthritis A Co-Morbidity?
Hi Leone, I have never visited this board till this morning, Just finding out I have arthritis in my knee and also need knee surgery cause of a torn miniscus. Anyway I haven't been approved, haven't even submitted yet, But I do have MS and I give myself injections daily for it, took a long time to get a diagnose, But I have been told by a few drs having the surgery isn't going to be a bad thing and it shouldn't hinder my outcome. Hi Carol!  I hear what you are saying about the NSAIDs.... I just posted about having to go off naprosyn after surgery.  My rheum.  feels pretty confident that she can find a substitute that will work with the surgery.  I don't know what to say about the exercise - I wish you had access to an indoor pool.  Have you tried calling the arthritis foundation in your area for help?  Also sometimes you can get memberships at hotel pools.... I did this once at an Amerihost.  Guests hardly ever used the pool, so for a small fee they let me come and use it. I'm really not once to give advice on exercise - I'm a little behind on my goals there and only recently started taking short walks.  I have a sedentary desk job and my evening job is as a couch potato.  I do have stairs to climb at home and I'm gradually making small changes.  I have considered tai chi or some other gentle form of martial arts... I hear that can be good too. Hope things are going okay for you!

Topic: RA and RNY - hi from new member
Hello!  I am just beginning on this journey and am 2-6 months pre-op.  I have RA (since 1992) and am on remicade, methotrexate, naprosyn and plaquenil. My surgeon has been intentional about working with my rheumatologist, so I feel secure about that.  They are recommending a switch from naprosyn to celebrex or some other anti-inflammatory.  Also, I can't have anymore remicade until I've had and healed from surgery - I just had my last infusion two weeks ago.   Am interested in anyone else's experiences like this... I am lucky to be relatively pain free now.  I am bracing myself for flareups as the meds get adjusted.

Topic: RE: Gout and wls diet
Gayle,  I was searching the boards to see if anyone started a topic on gout.  After a ton of pain and subsequent research on web md, I believe I may have gout.  I had lap band surgery about 1 year ago and am down about 70 lbs.  My daily diet consists of 4 slices of turkey bacon every morning with coffee, lunch is something light, maybe some nuts for a snack and dinner is 1 - 2 ounces of meat and a few bites of whatever else is on the table.  I discovered this turkey bacon just about 4 months ago and I love it.  Do you think that 4 slices is too much to eat and causing the gout pain?  Take into consideration my other foods, I really dont eat that much.  I live in Tarrant county but my rhuematologist is in Lewisville.  Who do you use?  Do you take Aleve?  What type of wls will you have done?
