I take Tramadol for my pain, about 300mg a day.  Also, I put Lidocaine patches on whatever area of my body hurts including my knees at bedtime.  Hope that helps. KIM M>

My heart goes out to you with your fibro struggle.  It is so difficult.  I was diagnosed with it about two years ago. Though honestly, the dr. never did any tests, it was just her judgement which I thought was a strange approach.  I have been diagnosed with arthritis by my pcp and she put me on Tramadol.  That helps so much.  I hate the fatigue I feel.  It is like I can never accomplish anything. Plus, since you can't "see" this disease, it is like some people don't believe me.  I honestly wondered if the rheumatologist even believed in the disease.  She was so condescending, that I decided to not return.  I hope you get what you need. Never give up, because you are worth their best effort.  There is only one YOU!   Kim M.

I take Tramadol all of the time for my arthritis and have not had an issue. I usually take two tablets with a glass of milk in the morning.  Then during the day, I take it with whatever liquid is available. Is Celebrex a NSAID?   Honestly, I couldn't live without Tramadol at this point of my life and illness. KIM M>

Topic: RE: Anyone taking Lyrica?
I took it for a short time for fibromyalgia.  At first I slept all the time.  When I finally got through that and was able to wake up enough to take my meds, I had a reaction from Lyrica and my BP meds that was a horrible case of hives.  In addition, my hands, wrists, face and neck were very swollen.  My doctor switch me to neurontin (sp), which caused the same swelling problems.  I had to stop taking it.  I hope you do better!

Some RNY doctors will let their arthritic patients take an NSAID post-surgery AS LONG as they are religious about taking a stomach protector or PPI. Discuss this with your RNY doctor ...  if you're good at taking your meds, it'll probably be ok. I will be able to go back on an NSAID three months post-op.  I can't wait.  My OA is killing me and I can barely walk.  I have to take my narcotic drug every night in order to get up the stairs to my bedroom.  That sucks.

Hi Ann.  I think I waited about a month before taking the Diclofenac.  I really needed it.  Naturally ask your doctor before taking it because every  doctor has a different opinion.

Good luck

Kathi, How long after surgery did you have to wait before you started taking diclofenac?

Before my RNY I was on Celebrex and Tramadol for my bad knees.  Since surgery I haven't taken the Celebrex as I would have to empty it on yogurt.  I was taking the Tramadol fairly regularly but my tummy went haywire so I stopped everything.  Last Saturday I took Tramadol due to severe pain and sure enough my stomach went nuts - stuff settling okay but after much angst, nothing tasting good, etc. Does anyone else take Celebrex with little to no problem and what pain reliever do you take.  I'm going back to my PCP ASAP to discuss this with him. Thanks

Topic: RE: Did any of you have to go on Disability?

Hello Pattie,  I was looking for someone to help me get my disability also.  I am bone on bone with both knees for several years now but I don't know how to go about getting disability.  I am 321lbs and have severe knees pains especially walking into the parking lot to work.  I have trouble taking a shower because I can't stand for very long.  Any information you could give me would be helpful.  My house is also a mess.  I have not been to the grocery store in over 2 years.  I honestly thought I was the only one suffering with all this pain in my knees.  My daughter lives in GA and I can't visit because she lives on the third floor and her apartment does not have an elevator, so that makes me very depressed. Thank you and God bless. Jennifer

I have fibro too.  My rheumotologist put me on flexaril muscle relaxer for the pain and it works really good. I take about 2-flexaril a day.  Pattie
