Topic: Question abuout taking Motrin
I have Psoriatic arthritis and take Motrin daily. Does this mean i cant have gastric bypass? I go the 28th for my first visit to my doctor that will be doing my weight loss surgery. He only does RNY,lap-band,and VSG...but i dont think medicare will pay for the VSG. So....i am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

I have it. Just went to the doctor yesterday and got a cortisone shot in my knee. Doc says I need a knee replacement but they won't do it until I lose all my weight. Seems you were able to get the knee replacement before you lost your weight. Not fair! lol.
The more weight I lose the more active I am becoming and the more my knee hurts and makes it harder to walk. The cortisone shot is my only relief now since I can't take my Ibuprofen.
Take care,
Nancy

I have this issue and had the surgery 12/18, I've lost aorund 21 lbs so far and it feels a lot better, I do still wake up some mornings w/the pain but I do leg stretches and bends so do believe will be more manageable the lighter I get.
Topic: RE: Any help for hip pain?
Hi Kathie,
I was wondering if losing the weight would help with the pain. I've heard others say it did somewhat. I'm having problems with my insurance not wanting to approve my revision to the DS surgery, so I don't know how long that might be. I guess my thoughts are if I could have it first and lose some weight, my leg/hip would feel better and I could walk better. But, after reading your post, I realize thats not a definite thing. I'm scheduled to see a specialist at the end of January and was hoping he could try a different medicine or some kind of therapy or something.
I'd like to hear more about your hip replacement. Was it harder to recover from it being heavy? I worry about that since I am very heavy and have a high BMI. But as you say, being able to walk is the best thing and thats getting harder and harder for me to do. Plus, I have my own flower/gift shop and I am so worried I'm not going to be able to continue doing that if I don't get something done soon. So, please email me ([email protected]) and tell me about your experience - I would love to hear from you. Thanks so much for responding to my post.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain. I didn't find anything (drugs, therapy, losing weight) that helped with my pain until I had surgery last April. I was in chronic pain and chose WLS before my hip replacement but I'm not sure I would do that again since I had to wait so long to qualify for my WLS and then wanted to wait 6 months afterwards for my body to heal.
I'd be very happy to discuss my total hip replacement. Being thin is great but being able to walk is even better.
Good luck to you.

Hello All!
I had RNY in 2001 and am currently in the process of seeing if I need a revision. I was recently diagnosed with DDD and my DR put me on Voltaren(sp?) I didnt know I wasnt supposed to take these meds due to my RNY, so with my recent trip to the GI dr for some testing, I was told, by the GI dr to stop taking them. They really do help with the pain and I'm so afraid of being that debilitated again. I go at the end of the month for round 2 of the steroid injection in my lower back, but the first one gave me no relief. Just wondering what other options are out there for DDD? Thanks in Advance.
