Hey dumplin! Ditto Ditto Ditto!
I am so fricken freaked out I don't know if I am comin or goin. I really don't spill a lot of my personal private dirty laundry about me and my woes but ............ My Body Is A Mess! lol Seriously........I have DDD,Degenerative Disc Disease, Spondylolisthesis,Myleopathy,Lumbar and Thoracic Instability,Retrolisthesis,Spinal Stenosis,An anterior Hemangioma Mass, OsteoArthritis,Radiculapathy,Facet arthropathy all added with still healing from my most recent surgery of Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion and Fixation L4/L5 and Discectomy with a Lumbar Decompressive Laminectomy! Wheeeewh.........Like I said.....a mess.
I don't tell folks all this cause then they just feel sorry for you and they don't ever ask you to do anything or go anywhere.
Now....I TOO HAVE BEEN TOLD TO STOP ALL THE NSAIDS etc........
So I repeat....Ditto! What ARE we supposed to do.?????????????
I am goin Monday at 1pm for a Dex shot because I can barely sit here and type! I have all the big gun drugs but who the hell wants to walk around doing the zombie shuffle?
Not to mention that if the Narc's upset my tummy now.....after the RNY they surely will!
I have been avoiding these boards the last few days because I hurt so badly. I have a high pain tolerence but it's off the charts right now.
I want you to know I have been thinkin bout ya and your big day Monday. Try to not freak out this weekend.!!
Take care.....
Renee

Topic: Severe OA, Spinal Stenosis and sciatica in lower back
Up until a month before surgery (which will be this Monday), I was taking an NSAID called Meloxicam for osteo-arthritis and stenosis of the lower spine, and severe attendant pain in my legs when walking or standing.  My doctor's orders were to go off of all NSAID drugs by then.  Since I've been off the drugs, the pain has gotten unbearalbe, and I've been reduced to using the handicapped carts to do my grocery shopping, getting a handicapped placard for my car, and taking Vicodin for the pain.  Is there ANYTHING you can take for your OA after the surgery?  If not, then I'll have to go the route of pain management injections - epidurals - into the spine.... which really freaks me out.  I had two giant babies without any anesthesia at all because I hated the idea of a needle in my back...

Topic: RE: Steroids for RA causing weight gain after RNY???
I too have severe arthritis.  and am on methotrexate (injections) and Enbrel.  I just had another dose pack of steroids.  I've put back on 30 pounds in the last 3 three years-mostly this past year after going on Enbrel.  I'm changing to Remicade after insurance OK.  But I totally get that it's a struggle for us.  It's difficult enough to stay at maintained wt loss but putting it back of is hard.  Part of it -for me is the meds and the other is increased appetite from meds and increase in pain makes me want to eat.
When the docs convinced me to have the wt loss surgery they said it would decrease my pain.  Not for me, mine went up exponetially with each month passing by.  I have a suspicion it's lack of Vit D.  As I became less able to absorb it my pain grew worse.  I've been on presciption vit. D but has not helped much or gotten to normal levels BUT-I could feel a slight reduction of pain.
Steroids is how I gained the weight before I had wt. loss surgery.  If anyone finds anything that works let me know.  BUT do check out your Vit D-it dows make a difference in some of the pain.

Topic: RE: Remicade and Methotraxiate
I had to be off of both drugs 6 weeks before and after RNY.  Due to blood work showing I might have Lupus I ended up getting a Lap-Band.  I had to be off both drugs for 3 weeks after banding.  I ended up going to inject-able Methotraxiate because I developed erosion in the stomach lining.

Hi Sheryl!

I take Celebrex for my osteoarthritus in my feet.  I have lapband and my doctor never said there was a problem.

Thanks,

Topic: Remicade and Methotraxiate
I am schedule for RYN WLS next Thursday and am also due for a remicade treatment for RA.  My last Remicade infusion was the end of December and I try to hold it out to 10 weeks.  I am also on 3-7.5MG of Methotraxiate once a week.  My question is how soon after surgery can you have a Remicade infusion treatment?  I don't want to go into a flare in addition to healing from surgery.  Any advise?  Also, do you recommend going to the Methotraxiate injections instead of taking 3 pills once a week?  Has any studies been done on Methotraxiate tablets and our new pouches?

Thanks for any help!

Topic: RE: Osteoarthritis in the knee
You need to find another dr.   If in severe pain get a knee replacement.     My doctor and I were conservative too.  Me being too young,  I had mine at 44.  I could not walk to the back of a grocery store.  Climbing the stairs at night was horrible.   I was gaining weight and going down hill fast.

I am not telling you that the replacement will be easy, but it has been my rock and strength on the other knee.

Now the weight loss has given me great relief too.    It has given me more time on the other knee.

Good luck.

It's much better to set a realistic target and accept that 2 hours a day in the gym is fine if you're a Hollywood star or top model, but it doesn't fit in with the lifestyles that most of us have. It's much better to increase your level of exercise gradually to a level that doesn't disrupt your life too much.
