Topic: arthritis and artificial sweeteners....
Ah, the double-edged sword....... I just have come through a debilitating osteo. arthritis flare and, like most WLS people, I have used all types of artificial sweeteners. In exploring arthritis on the 'net, i have discovered some articles, blogs and sites suggesting a link between artificial sweeteners and arthritis. My holistic chiropractor firmly believes that artificial sweeteners are about one molecule away from rat poison! I was wondering if anybody on this board have experienced any problems using 'fake' sugar... I did a non-scientific experiment and did not use any artificial sweeteners for a two week period and felt much better. I then drank some artificially sweetened peach tea--about 64 oz. over the course of a day and the next morning my hands and wrists were swollen and my arms ached badly...I repeated the 'experiment' a couple weeks later with a different artificial sweetener and the same result (although a bit less severe). What, if any, are your experiences?
Topic: RE: My knee is killing me!
Hello,
I am right there with you. I am 40 yrs old and I suffer from OA in both knees. I just had my 5th knee scope. I have been told my three different Ortho surgeons that I need knee replacments but that I am way to young. All three have suggested weight loss, one advised on WLS. I have done all the treatments you described, the only thing left to do is WLS. I have to wait until February, since I am self-pay! I know it will be worth every penny. I want my life back. I can't do anything without suffering great pain. I feel less of a person..and so embarassed that I can hardly move or get up from a chair because of the damage done to my knees. I pray that my upcoming WLS will improve the pain that I experience on a daily basis. I am currently doing Aquatic Physical Therapy...which feels wonderful.
Please let us know how you are feeling ( I see you should have already had your surgery!!!

Losing weight WILL make things better, and, smart girl, you're having a form fo WLs that will allow you to continue to take NSAIDs! You'll be amazed how much better you feeel this time next year.
Topic: RE: Pain in my ankle--is it arthritis?
Tylenol has no anti-inflammatory properties. Can you take NSAIDs? They're really about the only thing that actually treats the cause of the pain, not just masks the pain.
Topic: RE: Wit's end
LOL it is fine to vent that's what I have learned from htis group who are the most supportive people in the world .Arthritis is PAINFUL and everyone here understands that so no worries someone is always willing to listen as the pounds melt the load is lighter and pain will lessen.
