Gout and wls diet
I have been on gout meds for many years (20?) but can't even remember the last flare-up I had.....UNTIL I started on this PRE pre-op high protein diet about a week ago. And now I am hurting all over, my feet burn, my back is stiff, etc etc etc!!!
The connection between the protein and the pain just dawned on me a few minutes ago!! Is this common? Have any of you experienced that? Have any of your doctors addressed this?
I had no fears or hesitations about this surgery before......now I'm panicing!!!
My father had gout for many years. I have never experienced any problem with it, or osteoarthritis either. However, I am on day 3 of the pre-op diet and using protein supplements. I've been stiff in the knees and hips and was awakened last night with sharp pain in my big toe. I was immediately wondering whether it was gout. I'm still going to do the lap-band surgery, because after I can eat again, I won't need the protein supplements. However, I think that gout could be causing this pain.
Gayle,
I was searching the boards to see if anyone started a topic on gout. After a ton of pain and subsequent research on web md, I believe I may have gout. I had lap band surgery about 1 year ago and am down about 70 lbs. My daily diet consists of 4 slices of turkey bacon every morning with coffee, lunch is something light, maybe some nuts for a snack and dinner is 1 - 2 ounces of meat and a few bites of whatever else is on the table.
I discovered this turkey bacon just about 4 months ago and I love it. Do you think that 4 slices is too much to eat and causing the gout pain? Take into consideration my other foods, I really dont eat that much.
I live in Tarrant county but my rhuematologist is in Lewisville. Who do you use? Do you take Aleve? What type of wls will you have done?
