NSAIDs
How many of you take these, post-op? How many of you are pre-ops and not certain how you'll cope without them, post-op?
One of the many reasons I chose the DS form of WLS was because it allows me to still take my NSAIDs. I strongly urge any pre-op with arthritis problems to consider the DS before making a final decision as to which form of WLS to have.
Sure am (I am also DS) - I went from not taking regularly before surgery (I'm almost 3 weeks post-op) to all the time now. Frankly, geting on/off toilet without tummy muscles so many times when losing IV fluids was killing my knees and they are taking a while to recover. So I called surgeon one week post-op and he had me stop Comadin and start Naprosyn again. I normally take a herbal medication Ziflamend and plan to go back on that after 4 week followup with surgeon. I chose DS because I wanted to be able to continue taking the anti-depressants and I didn't like the sounds of all those RNY's that needed their stomas stretched. PS. I take NSAID with a couple crackers.
Ms Batt...I wish I had DS, I am suffering because they took away my NSAIDS. When I found obout the liquid vioxx it kelped me better than anything but they took it off too. I am really suffering now. I wish I had asked more questions, but my Dr. knew all my meds I was on. I am using a lot of Biofreeze and gel horse liniment...it smells like Spearment. I have tried and tried stuff and they are the only one's to cool my joints so to ease me to sleep.
Please just as Ms. said study as much as you can before you totally decide. We are not getting any younger and our joints have been strained and pulled so much.
I pray that God gives you the strenght to make the right decision,
Sweet Peaceful rest and many blessings on your journey,
Sandy
I am suffering greatly since my wls and no longer being able to take my NSAIDS. I lived on prescription Ibuprofen before surgery. I have had 4 epidural shots in my lower back the past 2 months, 1 steroid shot in my left knee, 1 in each hip and I am still suffering just as much. My MRI and x-rays show great bone deterioration. I have taken vicodin and percoset since wls but I hate the idea of being hooked on narcotics for the rest of my life. SOOOOO, I started back on Ibuprofen yesterday and felt relief for the first time since before wls. I know it is dangerous but I just don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
