diagnosed with knee arthritis
Hi. I was recently seen by a specialist in the east end, who has given me a diagnosis of arthritis in both of my knees. This impacts my ability to kneel, and get down on all fours on the floor when interacting or cleaning. It causes me pain. I have come off of the advil, and I am only taking Tylenol when needed for pain, it now can be medically prescribed and not over the counter purchased. I am telling you this, whoever is reading this, because I am sad. I am sad for missing out on children, I am sad people pretend to not understand pain and discomfort, and I am sad because I need to push myself to a point of it too survive and accomplish appropriate measures.
I know how you feel. I was recently diagnosed with knee arthritis too. I had learned to enjoy exercising, but I notice just walking causes pain. I get discouraged and frustrated too. I refuse to give up though. When I walk on my treadmill now, I go slower. I have to go at a speed that will not cause pain. I know that there is only so much I can do.
So sorry to hear about this. I know first hand how depressing this diagnosis is. I sprained my knee a couple of weeks ago and went in to an urgent care place. They did an x-ray and said I had lots of bone spurs in my knee. I have the same results of this that you do...I can squat, can't tolerate being on all fours, or kneel. I have dealt with that for years and didn't really think it was arthritis, but now I know. I think it makes it hurst worse, lol.
For me, the worst part is now I am worried everytime I exercise. I am so afraid I will injure my knees again and with lack of exercise comes weight gain. Scary for someone who has worked to lose over 100 lbs. =(
Best of luck to you!
I truly feel for you. I am 37 years old, was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis (Degenerative Joint Disease) in both knees 2 years ago. At the time they did pain injections in both knees about every 3-4 months. Those were very painful and did not seem to relieve any of my discomfort. The specials said that I was not a candidate for replacement due to my age and weight and I was at the point of no more injections as they weren't successful. He basically told me that I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. It is quite depressing. I see others walking with ease, which by the way prior to this I was walking a track, 2 miles a time, three days a week, and I just wonder if I will ever be able to walk normal again. All the doctors and physical therapists tell me that once I shed some weight things will get better, but I'm already past the point of disbelief. I just recently had weight loss surgery, which resulted in complications. I ended up in respiratory failure and spent 5 days in ICU, making the ability to return to any kind of exercise routine very difficult, because now I am on pulmonary rehab.
I just wanted to let you know you are not alone! I wish you all the best and hope that you are able to get some relief soon!!!

I have osteoarthritis in both knees. My left knee will eventually need replaced, but no more waiting for my right knee as I need to have it replaced now. My ortho doc would do it now but I asked him if it would be a better recovery if I wait until after WLS...he said yes. So, that is my plan.
I'm quite concerned about the exercising part of WLS because of the severe knee pain I have just walking. It's been suggested that I try water exercise, but OMG the thought of buying, wearing. and being seen in a bathing suit makes me ill.
