My regular doctor wants me to start taking Methotrexate every day for the rest of my life. Is this medication safe for RNY patients?

hello;

Take it from someone who has tried methotrexate,  not a good idea.

Your new pouch will fight back!

If you absolutely have to go on that med, you better get something else prescribed to protect not only your pouch but your intestines also.

The rules are different for us.

Extended meds go through you very fast.

If you need answers about what you can and what you can't,

I am 11 years post Roux-en-Y and started on Methotrexate about 1.5 years ago.  I didn't have problems with it from a G.I. perspective but due to occasional ulceration's at the anastomosis site, I take Nexium so may be more protected.

The Methotrexate even at 20 mg/wk was not effective so my physician added Humira which is an injection and it seems to work well.  I have always wondered about medications and the ability to absorb as trblncolo indicated in her/his post. I would like to learn what studies are being done or have been done regarding malabsorption post gastric Bypass.
