Decrease in meds after significant weight loss?
Hi all, I have severe RA in most of my joints, I'm on Enbrel and Metho injected weekly. I am waiting for my surgeon's office to call this week to schedule my RNY. I've gone through all the hoops, and now just need my date. I've already talked to my rheumy about when to stop my meds before and after surgery.
The one thing I haven't asked is this: has anyone who is on meds like this had to reduce the dosage following the major weight loss? Has anyone had the experience of NOT needing these medications following their surgery and loss?
I know that having this surgery is NOT A CURE. But with there being less pressure on my joints, is there a possibilty of my RA not being as active?
Thanks for anyone being able to share their experience. I'm so excited to be so close to my goal of having the surgery and having this 'tool' to help get my life going in the direction that I want it to be heading towards. I'm tired of being a slave to my body.

Hi there! Good to hear that at last your having your surgery. Well after the surgery you don't actually loose your weight too rapidly. You need to follow a diet prescribed by your nutritionist and adjust. About the pain medication it depends on how the surgery respond to your body and it will also depend on how you handle and discipline yourself. Good luck!
