Has anyone ever used Voltaren gel ?

I was surfing the web and found something called Voltaren gel, with exceptionally great reviews.  I was wondering if anyone has used it, and how well it works.  It's a topical form of the anti-inflammatory drug Voltaren, which I used to take regularly.  Of course, it says you get all the benefits, but without it going through the stomach.  I have not taken ANY arthritis drug since 2 wks before my surgery, my doctor told me to take it as a last resort (and I am closer to that point now!).   I just had a cortizone shot in my left knee, which has helped a bit.   If the Voltaren gel works so well, I was wondering why I dont hear more doctors and patients talking about it ?

Yes I use the Voltaren gel and it helps a lot.  you have to be careful with being in the sun though if you use it.  Hope you have a painless and blessed day.

Going through the stomach isn't the problem with NSAIDs---it's how they affect you *chemically*. They thin the mucosal lining of the stomach, both the tiny pouch AND the huge remnant 'blind pouch' stomach that can't be 'scoped. Thinning this lining allows your stomach's own acid to cause ulcers.

Ask your doc about Lidocaine patches---they've helped me a lot. And capsacin creams.

 Kathy,
I have not used Voltaren myself but my daughter had  very serious tendinitis and her therapist use it on her. the daughter said she has never had anything that was so successful for her. You might give it a try. See what your Dr. says.   Do you have knee problems? I had both knees replaced and have never been sorry.  doodlesll

I use it when on my hands and knees.  It works.  My rheumatologist prescribed it.

Is this safe for RnY surgery patients?

about as safe as any other NSAIDs, like advil. See Ms Batts response above. I have heard some doctors will allow a RNYer to take NSAIDs if they take a drug like nexium with it.
