Any one else having problems with with disability and getting medicaid.

I have been havin problems with getting disabilty. Has any one else had so much trouble getting disablity and medicaid.  I really just really want to go to the dr. I am 29 445 pounds. Ive had knee problems for years, and ive gained a lot of weight also. Past  2 years my knees have been really bad,. Dr toldme i have arthritis and gout. It has ruined my knees.every time i try and stand must less try and walk my knees feel like bone rubbing on bone, and feels like top part of my knee will go thru the bottom part. Dr says ill need to have knees replacement.but i cant  afford it . And ive been dealing with disability for over a year. I dont mean to put so much info in here. just tryin to get info with the situation im dealing with.

Unfortunately, it's going to take more than a year to get disability.  It took a family member of mine 4 1/2 years plus a lawyer.  You will need to get one but don't worry.  They get paid when you get your disability.  You won't have to pay them.  The other thing is to get your condition well documented by the doctor.  That will help.  Good luck to you!

Hi thanks for the info. Yea i finally got me a lawyer, A few months back. I was wondering. when ur family member finally got approved for disability. Did they get medicaid so they could go to doctor,also a few people have told me u get back pay from when u first applied . Is that true?  Its just been a headache dealing with those people.

When you finally get it, you will get back pay to the point at which the judge determines from the medical record that you were disabled.  SS is allowed to appeal the decision in your favor but I don't think they do that too often.  After ruling in his favor, family member had to call his congressman to get the check released.  Also, once you have disability, they put you on Medicare not Medicaid.  In the meantime, if you have no income, go ahead and apply for Medicaid.  You may qualify for it in your state.  It is difficult to deal with SS but you have to jump through all the hoops.  It's a pain but hang in there.

Thanks for info. Awhile back when i ws told to get a lawyer,and was referred by others who have gotten disability . They refered me to the local congressmans office, and they said they do and would help with disability claim, so thats good. They have been helping a few months now. As i have no income cause i cant work, i thought i could atleast get medicaid. they told me to wait till i got approved for disability, . They said only way i could get medicaid with disability is, low income,  be a woman, have kids living with me. Im not  a woman. I have a kid doesnt live with me, they said doesnt count, but if he did live with me i could. doesnt make since. SO ive been jumping thru hoops for  awhile now. To me seems they only want to help people *****ally dont need help, then the people *****ally need help, they make them go thru crap. But thanks for the info. Soooo happy to hear that you got a lawyer. It took me about 3 1/2 years to get disability and I never could have done it without a lawyer. Hang in there....it will happen for you. They pay you only the back pay that they feel you deserve when they deem you were disabled. I got about 2 years worth. I also suffer from arthritis in my knees and beleive me my heart goes out to you. DON't GIVE UP!
I got medicare automatically, you have to pay for ir every month but it is available.  PM me if you like.

I was approved within 10 months, with a lawyer and a plee to my congressman.  I won on my 3rd apeal (court)

Hi thanks for reply. I just got denied for my 2nd time.. Gets frustrating. I see u had a lawyer and help fom congressman. I had recently other month talk to people and local congressmans office, and they were more than glad to help me. Hopefully it works out.   

I  was denied twice and decided to go before the Administrative Judge, had to wait a year for that.. When I got the date, the previous people who had worked on the case had not sent any medical issues info in at all. I had documentation from my cardiologist, pulmonologist, GI doctor, Orthopedic Surgeon, and Podiatristand my therapist. They only sent info from GI doctor, so I had to try and get the records I had updated to the present. I got tired of fooling with it and called a SS Disability Rep who told me he really thought I could go in there to the judge and get the disability without him. I told him maybe so, but I'm tired of trying to get my records and them not wanting to release them, so that's what he was geting paid to do. I gave him the list of all the docs I had seen and addresses and phone numbers, all except for Rheumatologist who had moved and I had lost his new address and phone #. This was in May of last year. The guy got the initial hearing changed and eventually had the hearing before the judge in September. It went better than I expected and the judge told me before he left that anyone could clearly see I ws disabled and he was going to approve it. I couldn't believe he actually told me that before the hearing was over. I didn't have to wait for weeks or months to find out if they approved it or not. It took me about 3 weeks to get my initial check for backpay. They take last day you work and add 6 months to it to decide how much bakpay you get. I had last worked in June '07 and this was Oct'08. So addding thee 6 mos that you have to be unemployed to get disability, my effective date was Dec '07 ayntil Oct'08 for my backpay and then monthly checks started coming. on 25th month of receiving disability you start getting Medicare. My efffective date is Dec. 1st of this year, Remember they figured my disability date as Dec '07. I'm not sure how Medicare is gona go but I'll have Tricare for Life effecive Dec 1, too. To be eligible for Tricare you have to have Part A and Part B if eligible to keep Tricare benefits. (husband is retired military) Didn't mean for this to be so long ut I just thought I'd let you know a littleof what I went through. Actually it wasn't that bad, except the people who were supposed to be working on 2nd appeal. Judge told me the people should have given me disability the first time I applied but that they didn't take all the facts into consideration.
