Does anyone who has the lap band ever used Voltaren Gel? I have Osteoarthritis and being tested for RA. My Orhopedic Dr. wants me to try this medication to see if it will help. You don't digest it through stomach but when you apply to area on skin goes into your system, does anyone know if it would irritate the stomach.Need knee replacement surgery also going to have to  search for a pain medication I can take, allergic to all codeine or generic in this whole family of medicine. Thanks for any information.

I am still awaiting my surgery date for RNY, but am using the Voltaren gel.  I have had 5 knee surgeries and was about to go nuts without my celebrex, but my PCP and ortho doc both said to use it.  I have OA and FMS and a tenative diagnosis of RA and am only 38 so i understand the worry.  The oral NSAIDS are so hard on the stomach lining and that is why we can't use them post op.  The gel has helped although my kids and dogs avoid me after the fact..(it doesn't smell very good) Hope this helps...

Hello there. When I was given Voltaren gel by my Rheumatologist, he said only 10% of the medicine is absorbed. Hopefully that helps.

When I was trying it, I was told it is absorbed but does not sit on the stomach lining so will not cause ulsers which is why no NSAIDS.  Unfortunately it is not covered by ny insurance so we did not get beyond the free trial but it did help.
