Numbness in Foot and Down L5 Nerve

Oy, does anyone know how to alleviate this?  I'm so excited about my upcoming surgery and now really distracted by the sudden revelation that I have a herniated L5. 

I had an MRI on Friday, will know for sure what this is soon.

I'll call my doc about this, but do you know if numbness alone is a reason for bedrest and avoiding my  usual activity.  I LOVE to swim and take water aerobics.

In the meantime does any one have ANY ideas for getting the sensation back, especially in my right foot!
