I have Psoriatic arthritis and take Motrin daily. Does this mean i cant have gastric bypass? I go the 28th for my first visit to my doctor that will be doing my weight loss surgery. He only does RNY,lap-band,and VSG...but i dont think medicare will pay for the VSG. So....i am not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

You cannot take Motrin or any other NSAID's after gastric bypass because they cause stomache bleeding. The only medication of that type you can take (for the rest of your life) is Tylenol. If I were you, I would go ahead and switch to Tylenol now.

When I had my VGB done, about 15+ years ago, the doctors warned me against taking Ibuprofen (Motrin), but not anything else in the way of meds.  Tylenol does absolutely nothing for me; I might as well be taking sugar pills.  But I get at least a little relief from headaches (not from arthritis) with Alleve.

The only thing that relieves my arthritis pain is strong narcotics that totally make me unfit for work.  So I live with 9/10 pain because there's no other choice.

Medicare won't pay for the VSG, but it WILL pay for the DS. Change surgeons and get the DS. I had the DS five years ago, and I take Aleve each and every day.
