Did  you have the RNY surgery yet?  If so ,how are you doing and what are you taking for the osteoarthritis in the knee?  I'm scheduled for a revision April 6th.  I didn't do well with  the lapband so, I'm going to the RNY.  Do you have any regrets with RNY?  I would love to hear from you.  I'm anxious, but know I have to take this weigt off.  My knees can't take if any more. I have osteoarthritis in the knees also.  We're not suppose to use NSAIDS at  all, so I need to find out what's working.

I had surgery on my left knee in 2005 and on the right in 2006. I had RNY last July in hopes of keeping my knees and less pain--no such luck. I've lost 3 lbs in the past 3 months and know I need exercise, but doing any type of exercise that uses my knees is the pits. I took Pilates and had to drop out after I realized I was taking vicodin everyday. Usually I'll take it when I want to cry and then it just makes the pain tolerable. I think I am much more active so maybe like others, that's what is making the pain worse.

We have season passes to the zoos and Sea World, but I just realized I'd have to go in a wheelchair. Did that once and it was awful. I'm finding all the things I wanted to do after my RNY, that I'm not doing because of my knees.

I have sever osetoarthritis in my knees and went to orthpediest to see about tkr. He said that he wanted to be conservative and wanted me to do the gastric bypass first.  He even gave me a letter of medical neseccity  stating it would be best and he felt that if I had the surgery that I could delay the tkr for 1o yrs plus.  Now I have United Health Care choice Plus and wls is an exclusion on my policy however it is worded that any treatment for obesity is excluded and I am considered morbidly obese with additional co morbidities  and a bmi greater than40.  This coninsides with the NIH recomendations for wls.  If I am denied i will follow the appeals process and file a complaint with the California Insurance  Commission and ask then for an independant Medical Review.  I have also researched my past medical records to justify 5 yr history of obesity.  I am willing ot fight on all fronts neccesary to get what I need.  I have no quality of life, i can't stand, walk, very long, have difficulty in social and professional situations and get very anxious when i have to set on the sidelines while others enjoy the simple things in life, such as going for a walk, riding on a motorcycle and going horseback riding.  Or in professional situations when my boyfriend has to attend business dinners and outings and i can't be by his side.   I hope all the research that I am doing will pay off.

Good luck and hope you get some relief soon

I had my first synvisc injection today in both knees. I have go again next week and the following week for both knees. I had arthroscopic knee surgery to remove a mencious tear in March. Before that had cortisone shot in right knee. did not make a difference. Been doing phsyical therapy for awhle now. I hope the injections will help my knees. They say I am to young for knee replacements and they are not bad enough for the insurance company to pay for it go figure. But did have trouble getting the synvisc injections covered by insurance. It was denied 2 times I was told that when I came in. The assistant said that was unusual. So she called the insurance and got it approved. Boy that was painful.

A few years ago my left knee was absolutely killing me. off to the ortho doc. had an MRI- cartilage had torn and was pinching- he said SCOPE- he is a very busy doc and preop was over a month away.  during that time whatever little piece was there- got chewed up on its own and floated away!  Pain now bearable. Canceled the appts.
since then i've been taking Osteo-Bi-Fl----x. those pills ARE BIG! can swallow them NOW no prob- but after surgery- I DON"T THINK SO....
I feel so much better when i take it regularly - has anyone tried Joint-Ju----e  or one of the other liquid Glucosamine- chondrotin supplements.  I think i will need to stay on somehting.
My prescription will be a NO NO after surgery.
