hi ALL, I had good success with my surgery. Now I am having a real challenge getting back to my medications whi*****lude SULFASALAZINE, PREDNISONE, IBUPROFEN, FOLIC ACID. My rheumi wants me to stay with what has worked (makes sense) my surgeon is thinking this is going to highly challenge my RNY and I am thinking how can I get all of this in. I am told to cru**** all now (yuck) and it amounts to quite a lot....challenge getting this all down and still have room for flluids and proteins...in addition I have to take ulcer meds to protect my innerds from the meds....it has been 2 days and I am so flustered. anyone have good luck with this and could their be liquid forms of any of these meds. HELP PLEASE my doctors are a bit at odds....thanks soo very much.....(of course I am having BM problems with all the meds too)

Hello There.. although I did not have RNY, I had the lapband, but I have RA and I take the prednisone like you  mentioned.

I do believe that the prednisone hindered my weightloss... but the pain from the RA was so intense, that weightloss was not on my mind.

As far as taking all the meds at once, try it out and see what happens...

I hope you feel better!! :)

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. I have RA, but I take Humira injections and Methotrexate, but in the beginning I crushed everything. I just recently started swallowing whole vitamins.

thank you for considering a help. I am doing fine with the applesauce BUT I have so much medicine to crush seems like I am havinig a lot of applesauce. sometimes have to pause for awhile to get it all in.....the sound of different type of meds sounds attractive but none of us wants to mess with success and this is the formula that has been working for me.....just glad to have a remedy for getting the meds in each day.....thanks again..

Yes, definitely do what works best for you. I would also put the crushed meds into a small amount of water that i could get down, with a small gulp. Put some in your protein and peanut butter too for variety if your tired of the applesauce.

Oh and I told my Rheumy that I wanted nothing else to do with Prednisone, because I gained so much weight with it and I wanted every opportunity available to lose all the weight I could. That's when he changed me to Humira post op.

I have appt with my rheumi in two weeks. plan to discuss all of this with him but I must admit I am a little chicken to make switches......what if anything did you notice on the start of humira

On the start of Humira....I got my life back. Before Humira, I was constantly doing a taper of Prednisone and gaining more weight. But I never went into remission. I couldn't walk, wash, wipe, comb hair. Jaws, teeth, neck, feet, knees, ankles, shoulders, fingers, wrists...all HURT, badly; along with horrible night sweats...sheets were soaked. I'm only 36 and could not get out the bed to function. I hated to go to the bathroom, because of the struggle. Every morning I woke up feeling like I was in a car accident. It also caused three bouts of Uveitis, which was extremely painful as well. I started the Humira and oh man, I became me again. I truly did. After nine months on it, I noticed that when it was time for the next injection, I would begin to hurt, so they incorporated Methotrexate along with Humira and boom, I was reborn again. Thank you Lord. But again, use what's best for you, I just never want to go on Prednisone again. BTW I've lost 100 lbs in a year.

thanks for your reply. It sounds like you came right into the best set up for your....glad that has helped you so much.

In the past I have been on placquinil as well as methotrexate.....hated both. had side effects and would get breakthroughs if they didint ad prednisone. then I got with this doctor who mixed things up a bit with what he calls and old timy rememdy....(I had hard time living with the side effects of some of the new highteck drugs) he put me on sulfassalazine accpmpanied by motirin multilible doses per day I go along find and when a flair up comes along he hits me with prednisone which as you know is then very hard to get off of it....I dont want to be on it but for now it is a lower dose and things are smooth. with bypass surgery now I have to condsider what I am dropping in my gut and NONE OF THIS IS GOOD....so the doc and I need to have A TALK.

I get antsy about stopping something that works to hookup with something I may or maynot react well to and I know his attitude is IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT....the predinisone can really stand in my way of my progress and I think we have to face that head on together. Thanks for your input becasue it about 10days I will be seeing him and will get him to play what if with me.....warm regards chris
