Torn Meniscus?

I went to my doc and he thought I had arthritis in my right knee.  After reading and reading some more, it seems to me that I have a torn meniscus.  sometimes the Clebrex helps temporarily sometimes not.  I have a great deal of pain when I sit (riding in a car) or walking.  I know I know, I have to get it re-x-rayed.  I've been putting this off because I literally have to be knocked out (claustrophobic).  Has anyone ever encountered pain like this or had this?  I would really love to join Curves but I don't know if this would hinder it or not.  I'm walking like I am 105 years old sometimes. I had a Torn minescus and had artoscopy surgury on it. Weight doesnt help the situation. It took 6 months to get over it because of weight on it. . the lightter you are when you have surgury the better.

I too had a torn minescus and had artoscopy surgury on it, it was over 10 years ago, it feels a lot better now, just akes when it is cold and when I go up stairs. I am hoping that the weight loss helps as well. Before I had the surgery though, I could hardly even bend my leg.

Good luck, hope all goes well

I had the torn meniscus in my left knee. Had it taken out on March 18, 2009. I can say it is doing quite well. I did therapy after a week or so after. The surgery has help it alot. I still get pain time to time. But not like it use to be. I do get more pain in the right knee but the osteoarthritis is worst in the right knee. I get alot of crack, snap, pop going on in there. I am waiting for approval for the synvisc series of shots. Wonder if they do only one or both at one time. I know you have to go in for 3 weeks so one every week for 3 weeks. I done the cortisone shots did not work. I have done now 4 months out of my 6 months. I am getting closer :)

Bless your heart ! I know how you feel . I have OA in my right knee but had an MRI done and had to have the meniscus on both sides removed, that was in "05" . My Doc said my weight had nothing to do with it... hard to believe.... but he said it was caused from some injury I had in the past but losing weight has seemed to help . I still have a little pain { not all the time and I still can exercise without pain most of the time } and my knee stays  swollen and pops but its nowhere near the pain I had before the surgery . My PCP prescribed Voltaren Gel { for my OA } and I use that on my knee when it gets unbarable . I did not like the MRI either but it was worth getting it done and over with . Good luck ! ~ Cindy

Perhaps you could see if there is an OPEN MRI in your area.
MRI is the best test for soft tissue damage.

I know the 105 yr old feeling - if i sit very long- its like my knees just seize up from my osteo. Hope you find out what's up with your knees...

When I tore my medial miniscus in my left knee  I could not walk at all. Get the MRI.

Open MRI"s are not bad at all.
