Warmer weather and pain

I live in a terribly cold climate with humidity and cold in the negatives many times a winter. This winter has been terrible and my arthritis is so bad this year.  Do you think there is a correlation between weather and arthritis or is that an old wives tale?. I went to Florida for a few days and didn't need my meds nearly as much.  Was it coincidence or could it be truth.  I would love your input.  I would move in a minute if we can get new jobs,  Thanks, Kim M.

hello Kim, Well I live in Chicago so I can understand the weather part... This winter was very harsh on me...  I did notice that in the summer time I had really no problems with the weather... People saythat the problem is with the changes in barometric pressure and how that affects us arthritis sufferers. there is a gret arthritis website where I have made some relly great friends...dailystrength.org  they have a section in there for people with all different types of arthritis.. I am in the arthritis and also the rhumetoid arthritis forums... Thanks, Irene =)

I live in Colorado, and have had Psoriatic Arthrits for 15 years.  YES!!!!  weather plays a huge role in the pain levels.  When the berimetric pressure, humidity levels, and temperatures are unstable you will feel more pain in your joints.  In my case the two worst seasons are Spring and Fall.  that is when the weather here is the MOST dynamic and changable.  I was in massive pain the other day because a front came through and the temp droped from 70 to 45 in 1 hour.  The best thing you can do is ensure your affected joints do not become cold (they hurt more when they get cold) and also force yourself to keep using the joint, even when it  hurts,.  not using it can ultimatly cause more problems than using it does. As far as not needing the meds in Florida, that is also true in my experience.  for me it was a combination of a more stable weather pattern in Florida than what was happening at home and a warmer temperature that made me not hurt as bad, but then of course I overdid the exercise because I was feeling so good and ended up in pain anyway.

Oh yeah!  Sometimes I wake up in the morning feeling worse than usual and then when I look outside, I understand.  Storms and sudden temperature changes seem to bother me more than stable weather, be it hot or cold, but I do seem to do much better in warmer weather as long as it is consistent warmer weather and not crazy temperature fluctuations like we've been having in my area this year.  The other day, 69 down to 45, OUCH!
