arthritis meds
I am 4 weeks out of RNY.
For years, I had arthritis both ankles. The right one was fractured 30 yrs ago, but both are bad due to my old weight.
I expect some easing, but I am sure that old damage won't go.
My big problem now is that my surgeon has stopped my Cox-2. I was on Prexige, similar to Celebrex. Both have been banned in some places. With Prexige, i was dancing.
Now I can only use paracetamol. It's no good. I tried Tramadol (like codeine) but not much good either. I am in pain all the time.
At 4 weeks, is it safe to take Omeprazol (help the pouch) and then Celebrex or Prexige? I have doubts.

Some RNY doctors will let their arthritic patients take an NSAID post-surgery AS LONG as they are religious about taking a stomach protector or PPI.
Discuss this with your RNY doctor ... if you're good at taking your meds, it'll probably be ok.
I will be able to go back on an NSAID three months post-op. I can't wait. My OA is killing me and I can barely walk. I have to take my narcotic drug every night in order to get up the stairs to my bedroom. That sucks.
From what I have been told and have read is that one can no longer use anti-inflamatories and many other medications after RNY-DS because of the lack of surface area etc for absorption. Also the metabolism of the meds are different after RNY-DS. However I have been told that lap band and VSG do not have this issue because the intestines are left alone so absoprtion and metabolism are not affetced. So I am not sure what is safe for post RNY ......... Just because one doctor says it is okay doesn't make it safe so do your research first.
