Sharon,
Happy Holidays to you also. I had open RNY 18 months ago and lost 200 lbs. I still have 100 to go to my goal. I can't exercise as I am bone on bone in one knee and almost the same in the other. I can't imagine the pain you must have. I am having a panni done in 4 weeks with the hope of improving my lymph system so I can then get new knees.
If allowed in your insurance coverage, look into phsy therapy. My Gastro surgeon feels as if once I can exercise I can lose the additional weight, but I have to have the knees done first.
Good luck.

Well - I don't have a musical or rhythmic bone in my body, so I have never tried any of the music related workouts. I did just buy a recumbent bike, and even with my arthritic knees, am able to use it on the easiest setting. Somenights I go do it when I can't sleep even.
I bought a rowing machine awhile ago, but I find that it's just too hard on my knees right now..
I'm hoping these poor old knees are my ticket to WLS, so wish me luck!

LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR !!!
Protect your joints as much as you can if you have OA.
Exercising is EXTREMELY important to ensure that your muscles and soft tissues continue to protect and support the joints. If you can swim or do water aerobics, that would be best. You can get a great cardio workout, and muscle toning from swimming!
If you don't exercise, the soft tissue will stop supporting the joint and will let the OA proceed quicker and the pain to increase exponentially. (I was stupid enough to let this happen to me.)

Hello,I am 42 and hae bone on bone in both knees...I went to CURVES for a while and loved it,but my knees just could not take the pain...Water arobics is great,no inpact on knees...and I love it...you walk in and think.."How will this do anything/" I joined at out YMCA,and my first class was about 15 people 60+ yrs.of age and I almost walked out,but by the end of class I could not believe how sore I was..it is a work oout and gets better the more you do,and rubber bands, long band things..I have them, use them and love 'em...also bike riding is good....I have just the little peddle part you set on the floor and use,I also put it on the table and use my arms...it is good...but I can tel ya now, walking, running,no good...and at 42 yrs.old,What I would give to be able to walk the beach,or even shop like I did be for...Good luck...Mary
