Hi All, I am taking Remicade for RA and now my surgeon is worried about doing the surgery because  Remicade can cause infections and my doctor is worried that my pouch will not heal and it can cause holes etc.  I do have a surigcal date of March 5th if the research shows if I come off Remicade that I may be fine during surgery and after.  I really need WLS and I was so excited to get my date now I am scared.  Does anyone else on Remicade before surgery? Thanks, Clare

I'm waiting on a WLS surgery date also.  I'm on diclofenac and worried about going off it before surgery also.

Hi Ann, I came off all my RA meds so far so good. My date is March 5th. My Rheumy doesn't think that I should have a problem. Lets hope. What is dicifenac? Clare

Diclofenac is an anti-inflammatory.

Hi Clare, I had my RNY in September 2004.  I was on Remicade (& still am) for RA.  I had an infusion about 2-3 weeks before my  RNY surgery but didn't have another infusion until about January or February.  I had NO PROBLEMS.  To control the pain I used liquid hydrocodone until I was able to get back on my Remicade.  Just make sure that you don't go back on Remicade or Methotrexate until you are completely healed.  Remember that the inside healing takes longer than the visable outside.  Don't worry, just go for it.  I did and I am thankful EVERY day. Good luck tomorrow.  You'll do great. Becky Stark

Hi Becky, Thanks for responding. Tomorrow is the big day. I feel better after reading your post. My last infusion was 10 weeks ago and methotrexate about 5 weeks ago. So far so good on the pain. I will keep you posted. Again thank you, Clare
