Synvisc

Hi, I had the shots in both knees.  The shots didn't hurt (I have a high tolerance for pain).  But they also didn't work.  I am 48 years old and have had partial knee replacements in both knees. Had them done a year apart, the left one was done this January.  My ortho doc also told me I was too young but when the pain is too much and nothing is helping...they gotta do it.  The knees last longer now than they did a few years ago and it also depends on your activity level.  I am not a jogger nor do I do any "exercise."  My exercise comes from gardening and running after the grandbaby.  I do a lot of yard work and that is good exercise.  I am very happy with my new knees.  I can actually stand for more than 2 minutes with no pain!  I hope the shots help you.  Good luck!

Hi Patty, Thanks for your reply.  I had the shots, got a bad case of cellutlitus, had to have the shots put off for a month and then completed the therapy.  There was a markable differenence in my one knee but not the other.  I guess the replacement is next.  I would like to hold off as they are making more and more progress on the science of knee replacement especially in woman. Thanks again. Jeanne

I also have no cartilage left.  I have taken the shots in both knees and the infections were absolutely painless for me.  I had immediate relief that day, but did find some soreness beginning to return in about a week.  I take a series every 6 months (as often as allowed by insurance).  Once I get my weight down, I will have bilateral knee replacements.  Good luck to you.

Hi there I just got shots called Duralane, similar to Synvisc and Neovisc but only one shot instead of three.  They stung a bit going in but tolerable pain (high threshold) and my knees hurt that night and the next day but no worse than any really bad day of arthritis.  The second day I woke up and found that I could stand up from bed without pain.  It was strange.  I painted my living room and walked to the mall (about 5 blocks) something that I haven't done in about 6 years.  This morning my knees don't feel like anything.  Nothing... no pain...  I think it is working!  It was expensive $333 per shot, and I guess I will see how long it lasts to determine if it is worth it financially.

Hi Holly! I wish my doc metioned Duralane. I just received the 1st Synvisc yesterday and he told me it could take up to 6-8 weeks for relief. I've heard as quick as three from others. I'm searching everone's messages for pain/anti-inflamitory relief meds to try while I wait for the effects of the Synvisc. Could you tell me how you are doing one and 1/2 months later? I would love to switch to one injection for the next round. ... Thanks!
