FMS and WLS
I have Fibromyalgia as well as degenerative arthritis. I've been told aerobic exercise is the best but witht he arthritis and feeling bad all the time it's hard. My doctor told me this week just walk. Well I'm not to surgery just yet but can someone tell me if they really had relief after they lost the weight on the joint pain. If and one has FMS did the surgery help at all with the symptoms. Please god I hope so!
Thank you for any input you can give me.
Hi there,
I have inflammatory arthritis and prior to WLS I was confined to a wheel chair. I never need the chair anymore, but I still have joint pain.
Exercise has been key to my weight loss and I truly believe it has helped my arthritis too. My gym has a warm water therapy pool where they reach range of motion exercise especially for arthritis and MS patients. I also attend water aerobics classes. In the beginning, I went to classes just for arthritis patients, but now I can keep up with everyone else in the more high paced classes.
Right after surgery when I weighed about 450 lbs, i started ou****er walking. This was very easy on the joints. I also used a "sitting" stair climber at my gym,
I was lucky that my community had a hospital based gym that had well qualified trainers who could modify exercises for me so that they actually improved my arthritis.
Call your local arthritis foundation, they can recommend good fitness facilities for someone who has your other health issues,
good luck,
Kelly
I have FMS also and I feel your pain. I take Tramadol and have had pretty good results with that. I also take Cymbalta and that's supposed to help also. I would have to say I do feel better getting off 130#, it can't help but be a least a little better. I don't wake anymore all scrunched over and unable to stand up straight until I get into a HOT shower. So yeah....it is better. Now I have osteoarthritis taking over though. Damn, I'm too young to feel this old. LOL
I also have DJD in my lower back and knees, as well as my neck. I totally agree with the I'm to darn young to feel this old. I soo want the WLS to help relieve some of the pain and discomfort. I understand that there are not gaurantees but I'm hopeful. I am waiting for my appeal & greivance meeting to see if I am approved or not and that will be tomorrow. So hopefully when I call late tomorrow afternoon they will beable to tell me good news.
I guess I'm considered a light weight I have just 100 lbs to lose, to some that doesn't seem like alot, but to my body it seems like a thousand. I think everyone carrys there weight differently, and with this one person that is 350 or 400 pounds could feel ok and yet someone that is 50 or 100 could feel like death warmed over. I'm trying really hard now to be good and get the exercise I need and watch what I am eating but I'm not feeling so good. That is all I want is to feel good for more then a day or two at a time.
Well thanks for the info. Oh I am also on the tramadol and so far It might be helping with the pain but I am more and more tired by the day. To the point where I'm almost afraid to drive cause I can barely keep my eyes open.
I have degenerative disc disease also and Fibro.Oh I have TMJ real bad and having surgery on that Wed.They told me today I will have to have Total Joint Replacement in the right TMJ joint. My jaw is killing me and if I am not working I am taking Lortabs.I hate it and hope after this surgery I get some relief.I know I have Artheritis bad and its getting worse even though I lost 110 lbs.Any advise is needed and appreciated.I went through RNY last June then a mass on my Adrenal gland and had that taken out 6 mo ago.Now this .It never ends for me.My heart,BP and diabetes is gone as well as my sleep apnea. So that is good huh?
