Arthritis pain worse
Hi Rose,
I have the same problem. My hip and legs are killing me. Every day I have pain. I really thought after losing weight that it would help, but it does seem worse. I too turned 50 in Jan. I hope it isn't just old age
What are you taking for the pain? I haven't found anything that touches it yet that we can take.
Ellen
Hi Ellen, Well I used to take a nasiad diclofenac but since surgery I can't. My Dr. thought that since I am on a antidepressant called effexor it would help the pain but it hasn't. So I am basically on nothing and just suffering through it. I am considering making a appointmant with a reumatologist to see if they have any suggestions. I wake up at night rolling over because every time I change positions it hurts. I had a massage today which was great but I can't afford one every week or more. I hate going to drs because they look at you like your crazy then I feel stupid.
Rose C.
p.s. I have tried musle relaxers, tylenol, spinal blocks(steroid injections).
Rose
You shouldn't sufffer with pain...ther are other options then N-SAIDS. I take a drug called Ultram which is a tylenol based pain killer. It is called Tramadol generically. My Rheumatologist suggests it.
You also don't say what kind of Arthritis you have. If it is Rheumatoid Arthritis, there are so many new treatment options...You should go on the Arthritis Foundation's web site for information.(You can also get DR referrals there)
Also, you might have to consider whether you are getting enough calcium in your diet. After RNY, you need to take Calcium Citrate, not the more commonly available Calcium Carbonate. The carbonate is impossible for RNY patients to absorb, so you need the Citrate. If you are losing bone mass due to calcium deficiency, thic may cause bone and joint pain....
No matter what, I think it is a great idea to see a Rheumatologist...Being 50 is hardly old age....YOu could live another 30 years...Who wants to be in pain that long...
Good Luck,
Kelly
Hi Kelly, Yes I take calcium I take the bariatric chewables the expensive ones! Mabe I need more. I do not know my type yet my PCP told me it was osteoarthrits. I have degenerative disk desease in my lower back that hurts constantly and the muscles are always sore there. I also have it in both knees. my hips and I also feel it in my elbows and at times my shoulders. I get stiff when I sit too long and at night and am. I will see the rheumotologist
on Thursday and hopfully will know more then.
Rose
Rose,
I have osteoarthritis in both knees. Since I was also taken off my arthritis meds, the Dr said I could use Hydrocodone for pain and when I loose 50 lbs, I will probably not need anything. I have lost 22# and still feel the same. However the hydrocodone helps with the pain. I used to take every 4 hrs but had limited it to only twice a day now. So, maybe it is getting better now.
I stopped taking it so much thinking it was keeping me from sleeping at night. Actually, I still wake every hour, I take a sip of water and then I am back to sleep, then up one more hr and it goes on like that for the entire 6 hrs during the night. When I was taking more of the meds I would do the same thing but then at 2 or 3am I would not be able to go back to sleep for about 1 - 2 hrs. I don't do that any more.
Are you also waking up a lot during the night? My mouth gets dry and yucky.
Blessings,
Hi,
I have been taking tylenol pm. That helps me sleep a little. Lately though it wasn't doing much so my dr. gave me a prescription of Hydrocodone. I try not to take it every night though. I was also told that I could take celebrex but after reading it may cause ulsers I'm beginning to wonder ..... I also get stiff if I sit for too long. Once I get up and moving I seem to be o****il bed time.....By the way I am 52 Sounds like we are in the same boat... Hope you feel better.
Sandy
Hi Sandy, Yes it sounds like we are in the same boat and too young for it! I have hydrocortazone too but like you do not want to take it if I can stand it. I have been taking tylenol every other night lately but it dosen't do much for me. Do you have difficulty getting your exercise in do to your pain? I sure do and it is supposed to be good for arthritis.
Rose
Hi Rose..I'm sorry you are going through so much pain. My surgeon took me off my arthritis meds (mobic and vicodin) right after surgery and by the time I was three months out I couldn't stand the pain. He put me back on them..but I have to take protonix to coat my pouch. Talk to your surgeon about it..best wishes to you!! *hugs* Kathy
