I am not sure of the wording he will use, I haven't had it out yet.  He basically said, "The band is not working for you."  If I wanted it out, he could take it out and it would be covered by insurance.  I still have heartburn even with the saline out, and I am sticking to that...

Hi, Elaine,

Thanks for the update.  Hopefully your surgeon will have answers for you.  Meanwhile, keep doing what you're doing.  I find that if I make a point of journaling every bite, measuring portions so I know how much I'm eating, etc., it helps to reassure the nutritionist types that you're really trying.  Sometimes I think they reckon you're missing something.

Are you using a site like Thedailyplate.com for your journaling?  That can make it easier.

Keep us posted!  And I'll definitely keep you in prayer!

Hi Lisa,

I am probably the worlds biggest staller ever. I am maintaining what I have lost but that's it !!!!!!!!!!! I am almost a year out and am very disappointed! I will see my surgeon the end of this month for a check up, I am anxious to here what he has to say.

I still walk 4-5 times a week, I eat fairley healthy I think (Fruit , Veggies,  and my protein) I went to a Nutritionalist and she read my food journal and said she thought I was doing great as far as my food intake...........Now I would be lying if I told you I never cheated, candy is my downfall but even with my eating it now and again you'd think  I'd loose some??

Thank you for inquiring about me and please keep me in your prayers that the scale soon moves!

Elaine E.

You are right. I did not read your background information. I apologize. I wish you well with whatever you decide to do.

What wording did your doctor use? I have bluecross of michigan and they will only remove it if it is giving me problems. With the saline gone, the voimitng and stuck feelings and reflux are gone. I plan to call the office and make an appt for my removal options. It is just really emotional. I thought this would work for me and it didn't. I am glad I didn't do the gastro as, I would be more miserable. But, I have to face the music and go get this thing taken out. I hate taking off from work, as they didn't know what I had done in the first place. I definitely want it out and will get scar laser removal. I had smooth skin on my belly and the surgery scars are a reminder of the failure of this weightloss procedure.

Anyway thanks for your support and sensitivity!

Thanks again,

shotgunchelle

Judy,

Did you my read story at all? It took me 3 years to decide to get the band. 3 years of research and seminars and doing almost every program to lose weight. We are all told to do what we can to lose weight before surgery. We are all told the same thing: surgery is a last resort.  But it is not the last resort. There are tons of people who have had gastro and gained it all back. There are people who have several revisions and surgery is not sucessful for them. It is not a final option.

Jennifer & kesleea1,

I don't think it was most of the "negative responders" intentions to BASH her. They were just asking questions that weren't being responded to. Like...how did this happen? What were her pre-op problems? The OP has never answered these questions. I think we can ALL agree that losing a parent is a horrible thing that is painful and takes alot of time to get over, if you CAN ever get over it. No matter what the cause of death is, it's not a positive thing! However, if someone is going to post about the negative aspects of this surgery as if it's the ONLY thing that caused her mother's death (and who knows...maybe surgery DID cause her mother's death...maybe it was some other health issue), then more details would be great.

I agree. I don't think your response was mean at all.

Your profile doesn't give any more information than your post. So...directing people there does nothing. I think what most people are wondering is if you're posting this information about your mother to deter others from having this surgery? Atleast, that's what I'm wondering. I absolutely appreciate you sharing your story with us, but like everyone else I'd love to know more. You have time to reply to messages, then I'm sure you'd have time to answer these questions. You don't mention and previous medical conditions that your mother may have had pre-op, how many of these post-op things would have happened anyways? Were they co-morbidities that she was already suffering from?
