Topic: RE: just home after rny and having so many doubts .. feel crappy
So sorry you had to suffer those complications. I just wanted to write and tell you that you sound a lot like my Mom.
She had RNY surgery 5 yrs ago and went through all sorts of bad complications for a few months and was really depressed for a while. She had pneumonia right after surgery and they sent her home, even being sick. Then she ended up having a collapsed lung, ulcers, had to get a feeding tube because she couldn't keep anything down, dehydration and all sorts of bad things. When I saw her on a visit out to her house (we lived 7 hrs away at the time), she had suken eyes, her skin color was this greyish weird color, she was on a feeding tube, she was severly depressed, and she wasn't acting like my Mom! I went home not knowing what to think and what had she done to herself!! And of course after all that, it's normal for her to go through some depression. She did go to some support groups and had to get on some anti-depressants, but she DID make it through and she is fine now!!
Well she had a bunch of trials those first few months, but now 5 yrs later, she says she doesn't regret any of it, even though she had to go through all that crap. She has kept the 100 lbs off and feels so much better physically and can keep up after her grandkids much better than she could when she was heavier.
You will get through this and it's totally normal for you to cry and go through those emotions. But just realize that this won't last forever and you will get through this. (((HUGS))) And since it's been a few months since you posted this, so hopefully you are doing better.
Good luck to you!

Topic: RE: RNY REGRETS
Do your research well and make sure you are completely comfortable with your decision. I have days I regret the surgery and days I don't; Feel free to go to my profile and read. Just remember I am a very RARE case.

There are always going to be people *****gret the surgery. people ask me all the time if I regret having the surgery cause of allt he problems I have had. It all depends ont he day you ask me. If i am having a good day, I dont regret it, if I am having a bad day though, I do regret it at times. I also realize that I would not be where I am today without doing the surgery but some days I throw myself a pity party. Just do your research and make sure the surgery is what you and your doctor want

Rachel, I know how you feel. Im just about 4 months pre-op and i still feel that way. I've encountered many problems and at 4 months i should be eating a lot more than I am. Don't get me wrong I feel so much better since Im 80 pounds lighter but not being able to eat the foods I used to or going to a resturant and not being able to eat anything but soup makes me regret it. My mom had it done 6 years ago and she says she would do it again. I guess with time our decision will be a positive one. Just keep your head up and try to look at the positives of the surgery instead of the negatives.

I'm another one that didln't really want surgery, but there just weren't any other good options. I had the DS on Jan, 31, and it has been life changing! I would do it every year of my life if I had to. Similar to the RNY, I need to have vitamin levels checked peridically and take vitamins daily, but it's a small trade off for having my life back!

Topic: RE: Has anyone had their surgery REVERSED ???????
I'm not an autority, but have learned a bit about reversals. The band is supposed to be fully reversable, but there are some who have had band erosion and other issues that left them with permanant stomach damge that may argue that.
I believe the RNY is usually reversable, but the parts of the stomach that have been in disuse since the surgery such as the pyloric valve, sometimes do not work later, so the pouch may be permanent.
The DS's bypass is reversible, but the smaller stomach is permanent.
Someone with clearer or more scientific information will hopefully chime in, but I hope that helped.

I am just curious,,is their only 1 major reason the surgery will be reversed?such as you all have stated here? loosing too much? On the main message board sez if you want to maintain your weight just add more carbs to your plan,,have you all been doing that to put some weight back on? or maintain? ..........I am not liking all my side effects from the wls,,is Rny the one that can be reversed?...........thanks Wendy

I hate the band. I did everything I was supposed to and it seemed to be working for me. I had to get one unfill because of a stuck issue, then I would get stuck daily on protein and throw up constantly. I could eat cookies, sweets, and chips like mad, but couldn't keep down chicken, tuna, or any "good" food for that fact. I really should've researched my options more. I went with the band because of it being an "easier" surgery than RNY. I didn't even know about any other surgeries then. Now, I have done ALOT of research and I have decided that one day I WILL have the DS. I read these boards everyday and you rarely see any real issues with the DS surgery. I have a two-year old and want to be around for a long time! Good luck with your decision, research is the key!
