Topic: RE: Do you regret the type of wls you had?
I'm still a pre-op, just lurking on this board, but I invite you to come over to the DS board and ask this question. Many of our DSers have revised from other surgeries that failed to a DS. You'll get a very wide range of responses!

Can you explain why you chose the Duodenal Switch over gastric bypass?
Thanks

Thank you everyone for taking the time to give me your thoughts. At this time, I am steering away from the lapband and pretty sure I want to go with the laproscopic gb. Keep your comments coming. I appreciate them!!
Topic: RE: RNY reversal
Hi Shellbear. Honestly, you are not far enough out yet to be thinking reversal. You are going to feel like crap a minimum of three months. After that, you are going to start feeling fantastic! Hang in there girl it is all going to be alright.

Sorry to hijak this thread. RachelMarie, I am sorry to hear about your band problems. I've heard so many similar stories from people who took doctors advice (and suprisingly our doctors often know very little about some of the surgeries) or saw ads that looked good. There is also a lot of outdated info from older but similar surgeries floating around that can be confusing.
Every time I hear of someone who has had a poor experience similar to yours, it makes me more determined t make sure potential WLS people know they have options.
I knew that most banders seem to need to have the band taken out after a few years due to complications, but I'd never heard about it's 5 year life expentancy. I'm still learning new stuff about WLS!
I'm glad you don't have permanant damage from your band, and were able to upgrade to something that will work for you.

Megan, with your BMI, are you certain that a restriction-only procedure is really what you want? Have you considered the DS? It has the same stomach as the sleeve, plus a high degree of fat malabsorption.

I didn't know the band was supposed to be replaced after 5 years.... I'm planning to get a revision and I'm 3 years out now, but still, it's not good news to know it has to be replaced no matter what...

I only come here on occasion for the same reason. If I ever tell anyone how I really feel about having this surgery 7 years ago, they all jump down my throat. I get bashed and no one wants to hear the reality stories! They only want to hear the fantasy ones. No one thinks that bad things will happen to them and no one wants to know what the long term results of this surgery are. They only care about getting thinner! It's truly sad....

I am so sorry to hear that people have had horrible complications, but I am so RELIEVED to see that I'm not the only one!!!! I'm also a little worried because I realize that I may never be "normal" again. By normal I mean, not nauseas, in pain, or vomitting.
I do regret that I was never able to lose weight and keep it off. I wonder if I could have done it without surgery and I think that I should have tried harder!!! BUT, honestly, it's over and done with now! There's no going back, so regret is only an unhealthy indulgence for me. I am trying very hard to take each day as it comes and stay positive, or I know I'll never make it.
Good luck to you all who have had or are having problems. I pray you can stay positive and get better.
