Well, I am sitting in the hospital and just don't have the patience to talk about my surgery at times because of it, I am here, not out living life. Take care of yourself!

Meet my pouch... The Gremlin:
First.... "Interesting" information people have sent you... What I would strongly recommend is that you do some research on your own and pay close attention to both good and bad for both, any and all types of surgery.
Some of the information posted to your question is inaccurate and just flat out wrong, not to mention funny, but I'll leave it to you to dechiper it...
Regarding your question, I researched both and after long discussions with my doctor and research on my own, chose to have RNY. For one - it provided greater long-term weight loss than banding. Another - I had more than 100 lbs. to lose and that is difficult with a band, but not impossible. I was willing to take the up front risk of major surgery, to live a healthy life afterwards. But please understand, it is a risk - it's major surgery and very dangerous.
There are some potentially serious complications to banding that you don't hear about often including that it's not designed to be a permanent thing. I wanted permanent; something to force me to change. I got it :) and I'm happy with the choice.
Regarding skin - I've lost 115 lbs and yes, I have some lose skin in all the common places - upper arms, though not bad, thighs and stomach and let's not disuss the mammory glands... However, I would do it again in a heartbeat. Some day, may have PS, but not in a hurry at this point. Victoria Secret has the wonder bra and I don't show my thighs in public very often, so it's been a worth while choice for me. Unless you plan to lose 1/2 lb. a week, you're going to have issues...
Someone recently said, I spent all this time abusing my body, this just happens to be the price I had to pay; and they were right. I'll personally take a little sagging skin any day over weighting 300 lbs. At my highest, I was 313. I'm nearly 40 now and truthfully - look much younger, in spite of losing a significant amount of fat from my body. But then, you can see my picture - do I look 40? It probably helps that I'm VERY short.
Whatever you choose to do - just choose carefully and be willing to accept the good with the bad. Only you can pick whether it's the right choice for you - Good luck!

Personally, my doctor wanted me to have the DS, but after researching some of the long terms affects of malnutrition and malabsorbtion, I chose to have RNY. I'm one of the lucky ones and dump very rarely, so I'm able to eat at least small portions of all types of foods. What my doctor did do however, was what's called a long limb approach to RNY which provides malabsorbtion, just not as extreme as DS does. That, combined with a small stomach is getting the weight off me.
So, in saying this - please research all your options AND visit multiple surgeon's before reaching a decision. I can't stress enough the importance of research!!!! Talk to other's who have used your doctor before choosing him and learn the pros/cons of him as a phsycian.
Good luck!
Oh, and to answer your original question - No, I don't regret having the surgery I choose to have. It's been a very good choice for me, but it's not for everyone.

Alyssa, first, let me say I'm sorry to hear of your troubles resulting from surgery. However, I was disappointed to read "Now... if someone has RNY and does have the benefits from surgery... happy campers and would recommend it left and right..." I am a pretty happy camper with my surgery, just haven't been a 'quick' loser, but I personally feel it's irresponsible to shout my happiness to the roof tops.
Anyone having this surgery, or any major surgery, should do their homework and understand what the possible side effects are. If you've had so many problems, it could be caused by many factors, not the least of which is choice in doctor.
Please don't assume people like me are out there trying to get people to go out and have surgery... You really shouldn't assume.
What I will tell you is that I wasn't thrilled with some of the life style changes until I was 6 months or more out. Now, I'm fully adapted, integrated and accepting. Early on however, it's pretty commen to feel upset and question whether it was the right choice. And, it's tough - things get stuck, you dump, you're sick and have to learn about your body all over again. It's like starting over...
For you, I hope the doctors are able to find out what is wrong and fix the problems so you can live a better, happy and healthy life. And, I hope you feel better soon and are able to have a better outlook about surgery. It was the right choice for me, but I would never assume it's the right choice for someone else.

Now... if someone has RNY and does have the benefits from surgery... happy campers and would recommend it left and right. I know plenty of happy RNY'ers, bandsters, DS'ers, VSG'ers, etc. I know others that are miserable. I know others that are living in hell. I know I am only 3 months post-RNY but I truly am at a loss for words when describing my misery. I feel like I am trapped, that I just want to escape, I want to sleep and never wake up. I would never be suicidal, but I now understand why some people are so sick that they take that step. When you wake up and cry because you woke up... it's just a terrible existence. I do suffer from a painful disease and frankly, I had a much better handle on that disease than I do this relentless nausea and vomiting. I have vomited and wretched so hard that I gave myself migraines, another one tonight.
So yeah, pretty damn miserable with my RNY. I have lost 60 pounds in 3 months... whoop-tee-f'ing-doo. It doesn't matter at all to me if I lose the weight if I lose it while sick. If I am sick enough to spend 80% of the admitted to the hospital, this is no life to live. RNY has not given me my life back and I can't bring myself to recommend it to anyone at this point. Will mine be reversed? Who knows. I can't live like this.
