Topic: RE: I am Ron lester the actor that was 508lbs. You might know me from Varsity Blues
I can care less about Ron the actor but honestly for pretty in pink we are a family here really. we are here for the good and bad and everything in the middle. no topic is off limits but Ron the actor just sounds like well to put it nicely he sounds like he is not here for the right reasons. WE myself included are or have been on this wonderful wild ride of re learning our bodies and we need support, the ability to talk to one another and learn from each other. "Ron the actor "does not seem like he is here for any of that, sounds like hes looking for "Tom the tv show producer" everyone may have been a tad harsh but seriously he kind of deserved it.

You can bake Christmas cookies with your daughter but you can't eat them. I know it seems bad at first but it will get better. You didn't go through all of this to ruin it by having beer and cookies did you? It needs to be a lifestyle change.

Topic: RE: OKAY i am Worried NOW!
I totally agree. Every person is different and if you don't take care of yourself like you are told to then of course their is going to be consequence to your actions. Or should I say non action. Cause apparently those people aren't doing what they are suppose to be doing. I don' t know what your surgeon has told you but the first thing mine told me and a group of others is that this is only a tool to help you. If you don't help yourself how can you expect it to work. I have 2 sister n laws who did the procedure I believe it was back in 2000 and neither one of them have ever regained their weight back. I mean don't get me wrong their weight does fluctuate but they have never regained their complete pre op weight back. It all depends on you and your motivation. But if you have the willingness to change your habits you'll be okay.
Topic: RE: Alcohol??
Dear Grace:
I was looking through the posts to find one like yours, about alcoholism. I too have become an alcoholic since my surgery in 2004. I too have gone to AA. I relapsed and now am going again. I know of many other wls people who have become alcoholics and wish there was a way we could support each other. Have you found anything to help you?
Thank you,
Pat

Topic: RE: After band removal questions
Nancy sorry to hear about your band.
I have only gained 5 lbs since the removal and over the holidays. I really thought I had gained more weight over the holidays because my pants fit different but I will get back on the band wagon cause I'm pretty hard on myself when I do gain a pound or so. I just don't want to be the same person I was 2 years ago again. I still can't really eat a whole lot but I think maybe it had something to do with the repair of the holes in my stomach. Hang in there and try not to gain any more, I know you can do it.

Topic: RE: Does anyone wish they had never gone through WLS?
I agree with you. I am suffering from something and doctors do not know what it is. I have tingling in my feet and hands off and on for the past month and debilitating depression and anxiety. I just had a baby 4 months ago and I feel like I am dying!! I am so scared. I may have a vitamin deficiency but No one can say for sure. Is anyone else going through nerve problems?

I never thought in a million years I would say this ever but yes I regret having my RnY surgery and feel absolutely stupid for ruining my health for vanity. I had surgery in 1999. My wonderful surgeon was completely incompetent when it comes to long term care. The long term is so much more important than the honeymoon stage most WLS people experience. Like the other poster said, your eating issues do not go away with the surgery. They are temporarily controlled but that pouch will stretch out. If you are capable of eating correctly then just do it now. Why have surgery? Everyone thinks it won't happen to them. Any WLS that messes around with your gut is not good. Malabsorbtion catches up with you. Before my surgery I had NO health problems now I am living a nightmare. It has been impossible for me to not be anemic. I am constantly dizzy, forgetful and pass out. My first child was born at 28 weeks because of the anemia. I now have fybromyalgia and am in constant excruciating pain. I take all of the right vitamins and protein. I constantly struggle with my weight just like before WLS. I did not gain all of the lost weight back. I yo yo with 30 extra pounds constantly. I would trade my big fat body with this sick one any day. It is like living a nightmare. They should not be performing surgeries that cause malabsorbtion it is too dangerous. I will never trust a doctor again. I was so lied to it is un forgivable. Had I been told the truth I would have never had this surgery. If you really want to lose the weight - all the weight - and keep it off, forever, please research the DS!!!! Make the right choice the first time.
Topic: RE: DS Regrets??
My story is very similar to that - had surgery in Brazil with Dr. Antelmo and thought I would sail through without a hitch because I was a relative lightweight at 243 pounds and no comorbidities, but I sprung a leak when I got back to the US, spent 2 weeks in hospital and lived with a drain in my gut for over a month. But I too have no regrets. I've lost 43 pounds effortlessly in 12 weeks and I know it just gets better from here. I also have elevated bilirubin and my new US doc is about to put me through 3 days worth of tests to find out why, but I know everything will be fine - and if it isn't, I'll deal with it because the DS was the best choice I ever made.
