pineview01 and SandyR you guys need to cut it out with your crap..you and whomever you claim to know may have been succesful ...but the stats don't lie... congrats to you woopty doo ... No matter how many times you type how great your crappy surgery is..all in all you got lucky..The majority of the lap band failures are mechanical so how can learning yourself prevent a crappy lap band from causing problems..

NEWS FLASH !!  Your surgeon does NOT do the modern DS procedure.   It sounds like you have been the victim of the ol' "bait & don't switch".   This happens every day all over the country because only a few surgeons actually do the modern DS and they will say whatever they have to in order to get you into their office and then they use their status, medical lingo and gentle manipulation to get the you to come to the surgical choice that the DOCTOR prefers.    This is happening more and more because more and more people are losing their jobs in this economy and with that goes their medical insurance.   There is more competition than ever for elective surgery.   Don't forget, your surgeon is in BUSINESS to make $$$$.

You are soo Right ..whenI first decided on gettng the ds I looked at duodenalwitch.com and did not see mydoctor's name.( this was before I knew about bait and switch). But,he waslisted on oh as a ds doc..So I thought maybe the system wasn't updated.I called my doc and told him I wanted the ds...He flat out said..ds's are no longer done and they are trying to get rid of the surgery because it's too dangerous...little do this doctor know . I've read about the surgery already and it is still being done...he proceeds to tell me he would give me the distal rny...I asked him will i dump he said no...I asked him will i be able totake pills he said yes...i asked him how will my stomach be arranged...He said just like the rny but longer intestines...which is exactly what I didn't want...this doctor was just lying and lying just to get my money...Lets not forget his program fee was 1850...i knew from that point that he did not give a fuc& about me and all he wanted was money...So fast forward to the future  .I found me a better non lying doctor who atually cares about me and I'm getting an ds

Latrice, what you are feeling isn't uncommon.  Many go through the remorse of WLS, your body is going through allot right now with recovery, anesthesia, food changes, etc.  It takes time sweetie, hang in there.

If you need help during this time, contact your doctor and ask for meds; it's not your fault you are feeling these emotions, your body will come around and the depression, tiredness does get better.

I'm sorry you have had so much trouble. Most is from lack of good education from your doc, and also that which we have to learn ourselves.

Your info about band replacement is false, though.  The band does not need to be replaced at 5 years. there is NO research to support or even suggest this.

I am more than 6 years out, Jessie Ahroni is more than 10 years out, and, as Band educators,  we both know thousands and thousands of bandsters more than 6-10 years out having NO trouble at all.  There are lots of people in Europe, where they have been banding longer, more than 15 years out

All the WLS procedures have risks, complications, and positive things. AL have wonderful longterm successes, and some failures. Since the band and the RNY have nearly identical loss at 4-5 years (with the band slightly better)
(see this current study's graph:

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/3665405/Rate-of-Weight-Loss/

I personally chose the WLS with the smallest risk of death, major complications, and with the best chance for longterm success. I personally would never consider a DS, as it is so risky, or the sleeve because it removes most of the stomach and we simply don't know yet what the longterm side-effects of removing those essential hormones is.

But we all must research well, speak with docs specializing in EACH procedure, look up current stats. and then decide for ourselves - THEN do all the work required of us with every one of the procedures.

None, sadly, is a magic cure. ALL types of WLS require the same life changes to keep the weight off.

The best to all of you - We're all brothers and sisters in this tough journey together of weight loss,  no matter what procedure we choose.

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad.  It's normal to feel depression after this surgery as well as have regret.

It's good you get out what your feeling.  Your not alone.  You should let your doctor know how your feeling.  You may need an anti-depression medication to help you through the beginning months.  There is liquid lexapro.

I understand where you are coming from.  It's hard especially when everyone else sounds so darn happy about it.

There is always that reservation about voicing how you feel because it's true you don't want to scare someone else away from the surgery.

Keep posting your thoughts.  I would suggest going to OH support meetings and seeing a therapist.

Feel free to email me anytime.  I answer pretty quickly.

Hugs to you.  Again, your not alone.

There are always horror stories - and who knows what is even true. look at the overall STATS, and go over these carefully with your docs.
Yes, some people regain.
Yes, some have anemia (which is easily corrected and prevented by good eating and supplements)

Of course it does not happen to everyone. Every board has hundreds of successes. YOU are responsible to learn what is needed to be successful - and EVERY form of WLS requires basically the same major and permanent lifestyle changes to do well, and more importantly, to keep the weight off.

Topic: RE: Anyone regret getting the LAPBAND??
I'm afraid there are people *****gret ALL types of WLS. There are those who do poorly - and those who do well - with EVERY type of WLS. Some go from the band to the RNY. Others go from the RNY to the band. some get the Sleeve, then need a band - but they cannot get the RNY because most of the stomach has been removed.

The bottom line is that WE ourselves are responsible for our own success, no matter what form of WLS we choose. We will all have to make major changes in eating, food choices, and our entire lifestyle. Don't be fooled that you will not. given that. I chose the band, the least invasive and safest option.
I have not regretted it - I am now banded 6 yrs today, and at  a normal BMI goal more than 5 yrs.
It is not easy or fun - it is hard work sometimes.  This is my post about being banded 6 yrs today:

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/3895621/6-years-banded-today-and-some-tips/

complications are possible with every form of WLS. I chose the type of WLS with far fewer, and far less serious possible complications. The weight loss stas with the band and bypass are nearly identical at 5 yrs - with the band doing a little better.  then I was VERY diligent to learn and follow the band rules and guidelines to minimize problems. There is also just some plain luck involved.

Explore all options carefully, with surgeons who specialize in each procedure.
