The Scopinaro procedure is not a BPD/DS.  The Scopinaro is simply a BPD.  There are vast differences between the surgeries. The BPD was not really in fact an older version of the DS in that it is an entirely different procedure.  The DS has been done for many years; at least 20 I think.

WOW...sorry you have had this problem.....I am 7 years post op coming into 8 years soon and have had no problems.....I have had one bout with a bowel obstruction that was surgically repaired 4 years ago.  This far my  only regret is not doing this sooner.  I hope things work out for you very soon so you can get back to enjoying life.

Well, I know that the intestinal bypass part is only partially reversible if someone is having absorption issues, but I don't know exact details.  I believe (and veterans can chime in here if I'm mistaken) that they can go in surgically and adjust the length of the common channel, which is where absorption actually happens after the switch.  A longer common channel gives more opportunity to absorb.

Hope she gets it figured out soon.  How much has she lost?  Is she having any malnutrition issues or vitamin deficiencies?  Who was her surgeon?  How long ago did she have the surgery?

Sorry to fire questions at you, but I'm asking because this is the only DSer I've heard of who is seeking revision since I started researching.  I'd like to be as informed as possible before I make my final decision, so any details you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I isn't that she WANTS a revision.  She can't stop the losing.  The doctor says if they can't stop it she will HAVE to have a revison.  She also isn't absorbing enough to stay healthy and it has been going on for a long time.  I had been trying to get an DS when she first had hers but as time went on I decided it wasn't for me.

Got it!  That makes since.  The big thing about getting approval for VSG is as a stand alone.  So, the DS includes a VSG.  So, If my sister got the rerouted part fixed she will be left with a VSG.  She should be healthier than, once they eliminate the malabsorptive part of the WLS.

I believe his telling everyone who he is and what he does is great.  Going on talk shows and such is not something you see a celeb doing.  Al Roker, that lawyer lady that was on the View (star Jones I think) are the only other people in Hollywood that I know of having a wl surgery and they stayed very low key.  I believe Ron posting who he was was brave.  A celeb gets a nose job or lipo and they hide for 6 months until they heal up.  He was simply trying to share his story and explain why he was regretting it now that he cannot find work.

There are some of the most ignorant, mean spirited people on this site.  They look at things from their own point of view and don't see how someone of his status (as a celeb) can help the general public become more aware of the struggles and issues obese people go through, pre-op, post-op and those that decide or can't get a wl surgery.

I say good job Ron and I wished a few asses hadn't turned you off of the site.  It is ashamed a few have to ruin it for everyone else.  Your continued activity on this site would have been a blessing and helpful to those of us that wanted to follow your progress and ask you questions.

For the people that don't like Ron or his posts, Why did you read it?  there are several ways to take care of not liking a post, the X on the top right hand of your web browser, the back address bar (type in another address), there is always your links/bookmarks (go to another site) and of course you could log off or shut off your computer.

From what I understand, the vertical sleeve is a restrictive procedure only.

The DS is both restrictive and malabsorptive.

Both surgeries remove a portion of the stomach, leaving a smaller "sleeve" so that the amount of food that can be consumed is smaller (restrictive), but the DS also reroutes the intestines so that the amount of calories & nutrients that can be absorbed by the body is also lessened (malabsorptive.)  That is the actual "duodenal switch" part of the procedure.

All the different types of surgeries are explained here.

Hope that helps.

Oh Hun !!!! I felt the EXACT same way!!! I had my surgery Feb 27th and I cried for like 2 weeks after. I was thinking I don't care I would rather be fat, Ican't do this!! It was horrible! If they would have said we will undo it I would have run to the OR. Trust me it will get better. I'm almost 2 months out now and have lost 33 lbs!! It's amazing how much better you feel after losing just a little weight! Just keep thinking you will be able to be more active with your babies!! That's what got me through, Ijust kept thinking about running around the yard with my daughter! I'm here if you would like to talk!! Hang in there!

I'm confused now.    My sister had a DS and is looking at revision.  What you are saying is the modern DS sounds like the Gastric sleeve.  What am I missing?
