I am 5'2" and weigh almost 100lbs...usually i weigh 94-97...my lowest was 88, which don"t look good on anyone!! I am 43, and I had my Bypass over 2 years ago, I've been this size so long, I think I just kinda tune people out now when they tell me to gain some weight. i mean, I don't just walk up to them and say "hey, maybe you could lose a few pounds"' so, why should they get to tell me to gain? LOL, as long as your healthy its probably ok.

Its true, as post wls you are considered a success already by your weight loss. Be proud. Look at how far you've come.

I'm also your same age and I understand dealing with the friends. My coworkers meet about once a month for drinks and I would always eat a HUGE plate of nachos. I haven't been since my surgery 3 weeks ago but I've already made the decision to not drink bc of addiction transfer and my family's history of addiction.

Be strong and you may need to find new friends to do new activities with. Especially if they aren't going to share in your new healthy lifestyle. I've started to make some at the gym.

I really don't have any advice. Just keep doing what you are doing and hopefully the abstaining from alcohol will get easier.

Topic: 7 months out frome RNY reversal
I origninally had my RNY bypass in April of 2009.  I was great for three days and then bam!!! i just started getting sick.  Starting to have a lot of problems that people talk about here.  For months all my doctors told me it was in my head.

Finally in August i had a doctor who figured out that there was a problem wrong with my pouch.  By that time i was so malnourished they couldn't do anything for fear that an operation would kill me.  So of course i did the constant in and out of the hospital, living on the IV, needles stuck everywhere.

In October, i was borderline, but enough for him to operate on me.  He said he could fix the pouch or do a reveral.  I had lived in misery throughout the whole year i just wanted a reversal.  Of course we went through the whole you will gain all your weight back, but i didn't care.

I had the reversal and the next day when i woke up i could tell i felt 10 times better.  Then hen i was able to sip water or eat jello and it stayed down, i just cried i was so happy.
I came here and talked about my reversal, and now it has been 7 months.

When i had the original RNY my weight at the time of the surgery was 237 lbs
My weigt at the time i had the reversal was 173 lbs.
My weight now is 155 lbs. I have continued to lose weight (my doctor is shocked).  I exercise on a daily basis, i watch what i eat (but can eat just about anything, just chose not to LOL).  The weight loss at this time is slow a pound here, 2lbs there, but i am okay with that.
I am so so so glad i had the reversal.  I have never been happier and i am enjoying life.

First and foremost, make sure that the weight loss is a problem for YOU not your FAMILY.  I can give you some ideas for how to gain weight, but if you are not having health problems, I would not worry about it.

There are people that complain about skinny people just like people complain about overweight people.  What makes you happy?  I ate like crazy, but stayed at the same weight also.  I weighed 119 at 5"8".

Do you exercise?  When you have WLS, you tend to lose muscle mass.  If you are not exercising, that would be my advice before anything else.  You may just need more muscle mass.

I am 5'8", and I now weigh 150.  (According to my surgeon, that is the higest weight I should be.)  I still have areas where my bones pop out, and I still get comments, but I have learned that this is where my body wants to be.  I had to accept it.

I hope that I have helped.

Good Luck.

Topic: RE: Nauseous

First... let me comment on the sense of smell.  When you are nauseous, your sense of smell is higher.  That makes perfect sense.  I went through the same thing.

Second... have you talked to your physician about the nausea?  If you still have your gallbladder, that may be the problem.  I had to have mine taken out three months after my RYGB.

There is no way to know how long you will suffer with the nausea.  Most of the time, it doesn't last more than 6 months or so.  It is very rare for that feeling to never go away.

There are SEVERAL kind of medications.  I was on three at once.  I was on Reglan four times a day, Zofran 8mg dissolvalbe tabs every 8hrs as needed, and another medication that starts with a M.  It isn't usually prescribed for something other than nausea, but they said that it can help with it.

I agree it's a tool but with the RNY, you have the malabsorption factor that helps keep the weight off (besides staying on a healthy diet) vs just a normal stomach with the VSG.   My doctor said that 20-25% of my intestines were bypassed...So I'm absorbing less than someone that had the VSG and won't absorb as much as the fat, calories and other things in food/drinks I consume.

I think you don't know what you are talking about.

You do realize you will only malabsorb for a couple of years, right?  Then at the end of two years you'll absorb fat and calories again.

But an expert like yourself would know that.

I would like to hear from actual DS Patients of Dr Schlesinger.
Thank you

Good luck trying to find a significant number of them.  One day he claimed to have done zero, the very next day he mysteriously did 200+.

His office staff claims he did most of them when he worked for a company prior to where he is now, and prior to where he used to be, and prior to where he was when he worked for Gitt.  Upon speaking with that company he never did a single DS procedure.  He lied.

He's not on the DS "best of the best" list for a reason.  When he gets a bit more experience under his belt, perhaps he have a DS rep.
