Topic: Anybody Out There In The Same Boat??? Help!
I had a gastric bypass in June '05.  It has gone horribly wrong. After ten complication surgeries and nearly losing my life, it had to be reversed in an emergency surgery. I am lucky to be breathing.  It cost me my job, nearly my life, relationships, has severely worsened my depression and I am in the worst stage of my life.  Within three months of recovering from the final surgery, I began gaining weight at an astronomical rate. Within 12 months, I have gained back 100lbs. In speaking with the surgeon who saved my life, at this point, I am unable to undergo any surgical weight control method due to the condition of what all has been done inside.  I, also am without major medical health coverage.  I am struggling and am in the worst time in my life.  I need serious help, but besides a psychologist, I just don't know where to turn...if anybody out there can help? PLEASE help???  I have NO support or anyone who can understand what I'm going through. Is there anyone out there who has experienced anything similar to this?

Topic: RE: GASTRIC BYPASS GONE WRONG
I hear you and I completely empathize with your situation. I had my original gastric bypass in June of 2005.  Everything was on track with exception of daily nausea ( i could live with that). Eight months later, it began, the first bowel obstruction to be followed by the gall bladder removal, more bowel obstructions, intussuceptions, and finally the emergency gastric bypass reversal to LITERALLY save my life 16 months ago. Now, eleven surgeries later and my stomach and gut torn up for the rest of my life. This has psychologically devastated me, cost me a relationship, and cost me a great job.  What I thought was the best decision I had made to change my life has turned my life upside down and my life has been spiraling downward ever since.  I am in a desperate situation.  This time last year, I weighed approximately 135lbs. Today, I weigh 238lbs.  I am devastated over this.  The doctor that saved my life has reviewed my file and has let me know that my condition is too risky to try another form of surgical weight loss again.  If I were to try the lap band or gastric sleeve, with my history with the bypass, I would likely die fairly quickly. I am in the depths of depression with NO where to turn for THIS problem. NO ONE cares and the original weight loss center was all too quick to wash their hands of me because of all the complications. I NEVER mentioned malpractice or anyting of the sort.  It was another surgeon from another hospital system entirely who saved me when I literally had a few more hours to hang in here.  I pray that you will find the help that you so desperately need and for me too.  It's amazing how quickly they drop us when our cases don't fall into their success statistics.  If there's ANYONE out there that can help, Please help!  I would be so very grateful.

Topic: RE: 50/50 on whether I should've done GB
I def. agree with the fact that we create new problems and forget about the old ones.  And a lot of that has to do with the main reason most of us got to this point which is the mental reasons.  Head hunger, depression, boredom, etc.

However, the problems I'm having right now are things that I could not have though would've been issues before the surgery.  I was not a drinker at all pre-bariatric, but now that I'm lighter and feel more comfortable, I am putting myself out there at the age of 28.  Just last nite, I was at a bar/club which I had not been to for years.  And its hard when everyone is drinking and having fun.  Plus, what I know now in hindsight after this surgery 2 yrs later is that it takes the same things now to lose the rest of my weight/maintain than what I had to do before surgery.  Diet and excercise.

do you guys think that maybe sometimes after so long we tend to forget how bad we felt before surgery and just find new things to feel bad about??? you know like when you have broken your leg and while the cast is on for 8 weeks you would just give anything to be healed and normal again and then after you are and a few months have gone by,,, you really dont'' appreciate it anymore because you dont' really remember how bad it was??

Topic: RE: Do you regret the type of wls you had?
You are the one who should "cut out the crap!"  I know a great many people who have had their bands over 5 years, some over 10 years.  All have been successful!  Each person must choose for themselves which procedure is right for them.  I also know several people who have been successful with other types of WLS - and I know some who have FAILED at banding, bypass and DS.

If you claim that 'stats don't lie' then you should provide a link to those stats.  You are using juvenile tactics to scare people and that's just WRONG!  All of the WLS procedures have risks - all of them!  Stop with the scare tactics and get on with your life!!!

Personally, I've got an AP band and have had some challenges - why?  Because I have had issues that have nothing whatsoever to do with the band.  If I had not had a band, the MRSA infection I got in my foot would have killed me.  IF I had not had a band, the surgery on my ankle and foot would have never even been an option.  Without my band, I would have committed suicide long before now.  MY BAND SAVED MY LIFE, MY SANITY, MY FAMILY, MY SELF-ESTEEM, MY SPIRITUAL LIFE, AND SO MUCH MORE.

So to you, MAQWA, quit posting such horrible comments or at least post the stats you claim to have found. Take your unhappiness somewhere else!

I was unaware that RNY could be reversed. I was always told that it can not. Good to know for the future if any complications arise.
