My college statistics professor taught us that 78.3% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
Of course, that's also a made-up statistic, but since it has an odd fractional value (.3%), it's far more believable (something like 58.7% more believable) than if it just said 78%. Of course, THAT statistic was also made up on the spot, so "your milage may vary"...
Ironically, he really DID say that for some odd reason (pun not intended), odd numbers in statistics come across as far more believable than even ones. (Moral to us students was: "Don't round off the numbers to even values if you want people to believe them.")
Just my 2.1 cents worth!

I don't have any idea related to you.But its better to go through the medical processes. I was suffering from obesity. I didn't have to go for surgery , I chose weight loss pill.Stratzol helped me greatly. Its a natural fat burning product.

Topic: RE: 7 months out frome RNY reversal
Back in the 1970's there was a surgeon in my area who did a lot of weight loss surgery. I think he was making the intestine too small or something, but after a few years, all of his patients had to end up having reversals. They could not stop losing weight. When all the lawsuit**** the surgeon committed suicide, so there was nobody to sue.
What I remember about those ladies was how quickly they gained back 100 pounds after their reversals. There are no guarantees in surgery. Most of the time everything works out fine. But sometimes the surgeon makes a mistake and sometimes our bodies just do not respond and heal as expected.
People can and do lose weight without surgery. They give up sugar, give up most carbs, exercise and eat properly. There is no reason why you cannot continue to do the right things and hopefully keep the weight off in spite of the reversal and all the problems. My prayera and best wishes are with you.

Secondly, I noticed WHO your surgeon was. Do yourself a favor and go to the Texas Medical Board website and put in his name. You will see he lost his license due to a habit of showing up intoxicated or under the influence of drugs to do surgeries. You MIGHT have a Legal case against him or the folks that carried his malpractice insurnace at the time.
Best of luck to you.The statute of limitations has already run for her, unfortunately, so she would not be able to sue her doctor.

Topic: RE: 7 months out frome RNY reversal
Hi everyone!
I had my rny 10/24/04 and I just had my reversal August 24th of this year. I had developed a stricture at my stoma that had been dialated 3x's and it just kept coming back as well as several ulcers around it that would not heal to save myself. I had dropped down to 98 lbs and was horribly malnourished. I had spent 6 wks in the hospital before my surgery trying to get nourished enough to have the reversal. I was finally sent home the week before on home health due to being on TPN. The TPN honestly saved my life while I was waiting on surgery along with blood transfusions and several vitamin/mineral infusions. RNY CAN be reversed! They CAN put your connect your stomach back and let down your intestines. It is hard to find a surgeon who will do it and even then they will not do it on a whim you have to have medical complications to have this done. It is not a surgery to take lightly at all. They can also revise your rny but, my surgeon would not do a revision on smokers. I am a smoker but, after everything that I have went thru for the past 3 years (the start of the serious complications) I am done and just wanted it reversed. I am still really swollen in my abdomen and did still have nausea and vomitting at first but, I am now keeping things down. I am trying to watch what I do as far as food goes but, I need to put on weight. I think I looked "healthy" at 130 or so. I had developed so many nasty side affects from the malnutrition it is not funny. I still may have to deal with nerve damage for the rest of my life. It is no where near as bad as it was a few months ago so I am praying that it goes completly away. I am also praying that the bone pain goes away. The MN did a number on my bones, muscles, and teeth. I too was suffering from really bad migraines but, I have had them since I was a child. The dr says that they were aggrevated due to malnutrition, dehydration, severe weight loss.
As to the person who got ugly earlier.... I was a HUGE advocate for the rny for the first 2 years I had mine done. I started out at 335lbs but, then things got bad, really bad. I developed infections that tried to kill me because my body could not fight them off. I had horrific pain, I threw up on average of 20+ times a day, My teeth started to crumble, I had eye sight issues, mental issues, reactive hypoglaucema, nuropothy (sp?), bp extremely low but, super fast heart rate, passing out all of the time, falling asleep because I could not stay awake, memory loss, degenerative bone disease in my back and hips, muscle pain and wasting, and MANY other things directly related to the weight loss surgery and malnutrition. I took all of my vitamins like I was supposed to. I did not use any NSAIDS. I was dying and I mean that in a literal sense. They did my reversal as an emergency type situation. I did however, have to wait until I was healthier before I had it done. With the help of the TPN I went from 98lbs to 108 before surgery but, it took over 6 weeks to get me there. Let me assure you that some people do great with this surgery but, others like myself ( and if you google you will find a yahoo group of people) who's body just could not handle this surgery for one reason or another.
I pray that I do not get as big as I was before but, even with having type 2 diabetes, being out of breath all of the time and all of the weight, I was healthier at 335 than I have been the past 3 years. I'd rather be big than dead.
God Bless Dr. Eagon for saving my life!

Topic: RE: Regretting the DS
I had my consult with Dr Husted about having the DS (will be a revision from stomach stapling from 1985) and I had been reading on these boards for months until I postponed it last year due to finances. Most everything I read encourages me to go forward. I am suprised he does it laproscopically tho - isnt that uncommon for a revision? I am glad I think tho I am going to keep reading here tho unti my time just to be sure. But I have been so depressed that I think I am doing it more DUE to depression & suicidal thoughts than worry about having them afterwards!!
Topic: RE: Lap-Band or RNY?
I have the band and I hate it.It never worked for me know matter how many times I got it filled.Things still get stuck and it hurts.I'm looking to do RNY or DS.Just a note everyone that had the band with me on the same day had no success with it.However some people do.I have a different doc now and he's great so I'm hoping for Dr.Brathwaite to do this surgery for me.If you have allot to lose I would do RNY or DS.

Topic: RE: looking for Dr Schlesingers DS patients.
Usually I would agree with you but that's where the patient coordinators swarm and praise their crappy surgeons. One even admitted it, she point blank admitted we were right in constantly accusing her of working for Schlesinger.
On private boards she'd talk about what a butcher he is and how he butchered her. On public boards she was all about how wonderful and god-like he is. It was allllll about the dollars.
