Karen, yo said you wanted to go right home after...did you? If so, you can honestly answer that yo all left the bar at the same time, bt you went straight home. If thisis the case, yo have no first hand info of what happened. I hope your friend is OK. Abuse cannot be tolerated. SH

Before surgery, I had no periods. I actually had to go on birth control patches 4 times a year in order to induce a period. My doctor told me it was because of my weight and if I lost weight, they would come back. Well, I am almost 8 months post op, 92 pounds down and still have not had a period!! I am going to follow up with my doc, but I think that is weird! My best friend always had horrible periods before her surgery, with nausea, sweating and cramps that would knock her down for 2 days. Again she was told that it was because of her weight and once she lost weight they would get better. Well, she is 1 year post op, 145 pounds down, and still has the same horrible periods. I am not so sure how much weight plays into the whole period thing Lauri

Darla, I am 14 months post-op and went for a check up with my surgeon today. I am 125 lbs. lighter than over 1 year ago. I had the RNY and it was difficult to begin with...the liquid diet...pureed food...feeling weak sometimes. However, I can say that I have never been happier or healthier. The day after my surgery I do remember sitting in my hospital bed thinking, "Why in the world did I do this!" I had my surgery done with the scope and was not in so much pain but really sore. But still, I would not change a thing. I have about 15 more pounds to lose and exercise 4-5 times per week. But you know what...I actually feel like exercising! I think that you have to approach it as being just a really great tool to get you where you what to be. You will still have to exercise and watch what you eat. I have never felt better about myself and my health. Fortunately for me, I did not have some of the problems others experience. Good luck no matter what you decide to do. Katrina

Doriam, I had my gastric bypass 14 months ago and have lost 125 lbs. I can say that this was the best thing I have ever done in my life. Just always keep in mind, that it is just a tool. You will still have to watch what you eat and exercise but I can say it has been wonderful for me. I am healthier that I have been in 20 years. I look forward to going to the pool with my grandchildren and watching them grow up. I really think that it probably saved my life. If I had to do it over again, I would probably do it. Katrina W.

No regrets. Frustrations, sure .. I am a bit of a slow loser; my journey has been set down in detail on my profile, which you are welcome to check out. (Are you are scared/concerned about the hospital experience? My experience is all on the profile .. I hope it helps put your mind at ease a bit.) However, this has been the ideal solution for me, and it is So Worth any frustration I have experienced. Best of luck to you, and DO check out the LapBand board. They can answer any questions you have.

My only regret now was that I waited so long to have it done. Like you I was scared (about the unknown) but doing my research and finding so many people who talked about their positive experiences really helped me realise that I was making the right decision. Marion

Well Jamie, I must say I am honored. Mine is the only post you've ever taken the time to respond to. However, I have read and re-read my post and for the life of me I cannot figure out what I said that was rude. I guess I am not only uneducated but also insensitive.... I had surgical consults for both the LAP*BAND and RNY in addition to performing my own independent research. I stayed with my sister last year when she had a lap RNY. I'm pretty familiar with the surgical risks and statistical outcomes of both surgeries. That knowledge and my personal cir****tances led me to choose LAP*BAND surgery. I made this choice with my HEAD as I believe anyone should do. I read the info and approached it rationally. Given my history, I was unlikely to lose the weight on my own. I had to choose between the surgical risks of WLS and the risks/deteriorating quality of life presented by numerous comorbidities - current/future. Doesn't mean the choice wasn't hard, but again, I made it with my head, not my heart. Each WLS surgery is unique and each person should choose the surgery that's best for them - armed with all the facts, both good and bad. I'm glad your RNY has gone well and I hope you are able to maintain your weight and your health long-term. You accepted risks and chose a maintenance plan that I did not. That doesn't mean either of us made a wrong or bad choice - we've just chosen different paths to success. With good surgical aftercare and the wonderful support I get in the LAP*BAND forum on OH, I am very optomistic about achieving my goals. There are several posters that started over 300 pounds who are nearing goal, in addition to many others that started in the 200's. I think there are many factors that lead to long-term success beside just the WLS surgery chosen. Ann 231/211/140

Had great teaching and support before and after - all that I needed. I did everything they offered, and then some. They were always there. After surgery - it was great. In fact he dragged me into the office too much the first month. I was 60, had Type 2 diabetes, and healed slowly. The Dr. personally monitored every step. I would change nothing about the support system. They had an email and a a phone # for any questions, even when I called and just said OUCH!! My psch eval was honest, and since I'm a counselor myself, went off without a hitch. I need no follow up. I have no addictive food problems with my small tummy, and Diabetes gone. The surgery sovled emotional issues just in the fact that I was out of control because of Diabetes. Now that I'm down 40 lbs and exercising againk I have no problems. Ditto to exactly what Barb said. I was banded 6/1/05. I am down 24 pounds. This was the best thing I have ever done. I was scared too, but now after 7 weeks, I think about where the time has gone. It seems so long ago and I am surprised at how well I have adjusted to this new lifestyle. Come on over to the Lap Band Forum, everyone there is wonderful. Joan

Lap band is a piece of Cake. I had mine on May 18. I'm down 40 lbs, eat less, and recovery was very mild. Just do as you are told about eating, get a lot of liquid protein and first,a dn walk your butt off. You'll be fine.
